Hesno master, but as someone who has practiced HEMA for nearly twenty years now I can confidently say the dude has REALLY put the effort in when it comes to his swordsmanship.
His footwork, posture, stance, and general technique are all that of someone who is quite experienced. Both in the BotB and Hardhome he looked convincingly like a well-trained soldier in his fights, minus a few artistic moments the choreographers included for flourish.
In that regard, he should be commended.

I was as an accident. My parents were married though.
>>72012163
Anyone else in the show you'd say has done their homework in regards to fighting?
>>72012163
He certainly does deserve to be commended for his efforts, but the fencing was blocked and taught to Kit by someone else. It wasn't really his "process," it was essentially a dance routine. It doesn't really speak to his abilities as an actor, and that is what he was nominated for.
>>72012163
> has REALLY put the effort in when it comes to his swordsmanship.
True, but he isn't being nominated for "Outstanding Swordsman in a Drama Series." I guess one can argue that learning the choreography was a part of portraying the overall character, but if he was deficient (or at the very least underwhelming) in all the other areas of the performance, I don't think the swordplay should really boost him up all that much. The choreography was cool, but it's really icing on top of the acting cake.
>>72012394
Dayne's actor clearly knew how to wield a sword but had pretty poor fight choreography for his one scene that made him miss a lot of easy kills.
Syrio seemed competent, though I'm admittedly unfamiliar with hi
Jaime and Brienne have both clearly received training but aren't very good, same for the Hound.
Besides that most of the major members of the cast look like what they are, actors just following their choreographers and direction the best they can.
>>72012500

Fencing and etc. in general is what I'm referring to, by the way.

I don't watch the show but last night Sansa and Jon were in my dream. They were a couple, but secretly. I even think they might've had a baby or something. I walked over and Jon started freaking out and I was like 'relax, silly, I was there when she told you, remember?' And then I told them both that they were family (as in, my family) and kissed them each supportingly on the cheek. And then I gave Sansa the burger I had, which I had gotten for somebody else but couldn't find them (and I couldn't eat it because it had meat in it)
Thanks for reading my dream journal.

He's a fish out of water. For the longest time, people in the north have stuck very strictly to a code of honour. Despite seeing signs of dishonourable folk in King's Landing, he's not geared to assume the worst in people. Honour is fartoo deeply ingrained in his personality.

The most blatant rape of all was it rapes desu.
>>72012647
Honor has less to do with it than the fact that his best friend Bobby B rewarded a turncloak for brutally murdering the previous king's children. The whole reason why Ned was up in the North for years after the Rebellion is he got PTSD'd hard by his sister dying right in front of him and his best friend showed a side Ned had never seen before.
When he's trying to talk the council out of murdering Dany (the show left Barry out of the conversation so Ned looked like an honorable retard) his argument was that it was incredibly unlikely that Dany could or would ever cross the narrow sea. A pretty good point, as she was so close to death/failure so many times. It also shows his concern not about the honor of it, but about Robert's character.
Ned was struggling with the fact that his friend had been satisfied with the corpses of children laid before him, and was terrified of the pattern (He let Cersei go not because of 'i also have children' but because he knew what Robert did to children who posed a threat to him, and he's literally damaged by that).
Honor is a part of it, but it's his insistence and later fear that Robert is someone to murder children (and his own baggage from the Targ kids' corpses and Lyanna giving him Jon) that gets him killed.

His honour and lack of experience in KL politics is also an issue, though.
Trusting Baelish so much, refusing Renly's offer to just seize shit right then and there due to , and choosing to offer Stannis the regeancy rather than taking it himself were all massive mistakes that cost him his life.
A lot of things went wrong because he was just too decent a person and trusted too much in the good nature of others.
>>72014495
But Jaime and Brienne will never see each other again
Someone post that gif of Cersei face, when the sept captures her
Cersei is likeable because she provides fun. That is it. I can't say I give two shits about the lives of the Sparrows or the King's Landing plebs. They are portrayed as a dirty, stupid bunch.
Plus, Dany is fucking OP right now, so Cersei is in a bit of an underdog position. It is natural to want the underdog to rise because it provides for the most interesting conflict.
Dany also hangs out with the Snakes, who are the most annoying characters in the show.
Moreover, no side really seems like it could be the best for a Unified Westeros. Dany is sterile. Jon's legitimacy will always be called into question, doesn't seem very interested in the Throne and so far hasn't been given somebody who could be his wife. And Cersei is probably too old to have more children. I'd kinda have to wish for Sansa and Littlefinger taking the Throne.
And I wish I could see more Qyburn antics. Necromancers are great.
>>72014541
>His honour and lack of experience in KL politics is also an issue, though.
Yep, but I feel the show goes too far in portraying Ned as a lovable dolt than as a PTSD victim who doesn't want to see more dead kids at Robert's feet.
>Trusting Baelish so much
In the show this is a terrible, moronic mistake, as the audience can clearly see that LF is a mustache-twriling villain.
In the book, the whole point of LF is that he's very helpful and generous to everyone at court. It's how he got his position, and how he plans to get more and more power. LF earned Ned's trust by helping him see Cat and assisting him throughout, and nothing besides the vague 'u cant trust anyone in kl' would be a legitimate or reasonable cause to be suspicious of LF.
>refusing Renly's offer to just seize shit right then and there
I would argue this makes sense from Ned's pov. Ned was already suspicious of Renly because he was trying to marry Robert to Margaery, and then he up and offers to help usurp Joffrey, despite not knowing about the incest. Renly looks far more suspicious and more of a threat than the chance that LF and the entire city guard will betray him.
> choosing to offer Stannis the regeancy rather than taking it himself
Minor, but I'm pretty sure Ned took the regency. That was how he had the authority to attempt to arrest the royal party until Stannis could arrive. He supported Stannis's claim to the throne, as both knew/suspected about the incest. This cost him LF's support and was definitely a bad mistake, but not one Ned could realistically see coming.

A big part of this is the omission of flashbacks. Getting rid of the ToJ and Ned dwelling on his family makes him seem like the only thing troubling him is that Robert drinks too much and Littlefinger is kinda weird

He is Ice (Stark) and Fire (Targaryen) and his side will be Fire against the Ice of the Walkers.
He's not gonna bang his aunt, there's nothing to gain from it, she's barren.
I hope this isn't a stupid question, but it's been bugging me for a while now and I can't seem to find a straight answer. How is it that Bran is walking around in his visions? And yes, I get that he isn't "really walking" because it's all in the trees, but how are they able to physically get him to stand up if he's paralyzed? I know a lot of the shots are from the waist up, so maybe he's sitting down, but I specifically remember a couple scenes where we see his whole body standing. Do they get a stunt double to walk around and then cgi Bran's face later? Sorry if this has been asked before.

good question. plot hole?
Who's Jon gonna marry to make alliances with and who is Sansa gonna marry to make alliances with?
When it comes to females for Jon, there's gonna be Dany, Yara, those kinslayers down in Dorne, Olenna, Cersei, Sam's sister, random bannerman's daughter.
For Sansa, there's Tyrion, Euron, Robin, Littlefinger, Edmure's kid.
Personally think it'll be each other. Neither wants to leave Winterfell and both regret ever leaving it in the first place.
Why does everyone think the white walkers are evil?
GRRM has a history of not writing completely black and white good or evil characters. He also seems opposed to giant battles with monster for the fate of humanity. He has taken a few minor shots at Lord of the Rings and has said Ramsay is misunderstood and had a difficult childhood.
But I see a lot of people out there (especially show watchers obviously) thinking the end of the series is the nights king getting turned into a puddle by a dragon or a king with a shinning sword standing on a hill.
This is why I think at some point it will be revealed to some characters that the nights king and the walkers have a legitimate issue and then the book will actually end with a peace being brokered.
Perhaps Bran will be shown that in the past something happened that was unfair to the others, and since he is technically warden of the North to most people he could control the situation. I think that's why Melisandre sees Bran and BR as enemies of the lord of light.
>>72015218

>Jon in the books
- Nobody, if for whatever reason he ends up as reagent for Rickon/Bran instead of King or dies in the war
- Danny, if (when, really) she succeeds in conquering the South and allies with him vs White Walkers
- Val, possibly post-war with the White Walkers, as a way to establish peace and expand the North beyond the wall
- Arya, to legitimise his claim and if GRRM wants to fuck with fans
- Maergery, if she survives the shit to come in KL, since she pretty much exists just for marriage alliances by now and the Tyrells will likely end up serving Danny
>Sansa in the books
- Harry Hardyng is pretty much the most likely option, she's obviously being setup to somehow outwit and defeat Baelish and it'd make her Lady of the Vale when Sweetrobbin inevitably dies
- Tyrion, if he ends up Lord of the Westerlands while serving Danny, bonus chance if Jon marries a Tyrell since it'd further cement alliance
>Show Jon
- Danny for the same reasons as above
- Sansa to legitimise his claim
>Show Sansa
- Baelish, so D&D can do another "woman kills her male relative to steal his position" storyline

Cat doesn't want him to inherit Winterfell because it would hurt her family. Giving Jon a minor lordship in the gift would give her no reason to argue.

So, when GRRM writes about chaos and discord, he uses several themes
>Cannibalism
>Extremely violent gangs
>Mass rape (and brutal, disgusting rape too)
>Religious extremism and religious cults
We see a lot of this in Arya, Jaime and Brienne chapters.
How much more of this will we be seeing in the later novels?
It's worth noting that most of the stories during the War of the Five Kings weren't about the battles in the war themselves, but the carnage and destruction that the battles caused, and the effect the war had on the countryside and the smallfolk.

Giving Jon lordship means he's more official, has power and would now be even more of a danger and threat to Cat's kids.

Giving Jon a lordship away from Winterfell would show that he is not Ned's intended heir and secure Robb's position as the heir of Winterfell. It would in no way legitimize or elevate him to be a threat, instead quelling any potential threat by sending him away and starting his own cadet branch/starting a new family after choosing his own last name.

>Catelyn pushes Ned to accept the offer along with a betrothal that would make Sansa queen one day. Despite misgivings about going to King's Landing, Ned accepts.
From the actual book
>"You knew the man," she said. "The king is a stranger to you." Catelyn remembered the direwolf dead in the snow, the broken antler lodged deep in her throat. She had to make him see. "Pride is everything to a king, my lord. Robert came all this way to see you, to bring you these great honors, you cannot throw them back in his face."
>"Honors?" Ned laughed bitterly.
>"In his eyes, yes," she said.
>"And in yours?"
>"And in mine," she blazed, angry now. Why couldn't he see? "He offers his own son in marriage to our daughter, what else would you call that? Sansa might someday be queen. Her sons could rule from the Wall to the mountains of Dorne. What is so wrong with that?"
>"Gods, Catelyn, Sansa is only eleven," Ned said. "And Joffrey . . . Joffrey is . . . "
>She finished for him. " . . . crown prince, and heir to the Iron Throne. And I was only twelve when my father promised me to your brother Brandon."

Cadet branches are common all across Westeros, with rebellions occurring very infrequently. The fate of House Greystark would show why cadet branches remain cadet branches, and would most definitely give any lord stupid enough to think about supporting Jon as the heir to House Stark pause.

>>72018291
>she fears a bastard with no power who's stuck at Winterfell
I'm saying that Jon being raised beside Robb at Winterfell is exactly why she fears and hates him. To anyone watching, Jon is being groomed exactly like Robb, despite being a bastard. So Ned must prefer or is at least showing an incredible amount of care to Jon, compared to Robb. Which might raise some questions about why Jon is being given so much, when the supposed heir, Robb, is right there.
Getting him his own land in the gift would show that he is not in the running to inherit. Cat would be very happy to see him go, and would be happy to finally have Ned publicly show that Robb is Winterfell's heir, not Jon.

Either way, Robb would the rightful heir, so it wouldn't matter if they were getting raised together. Jon wasn't even put in a place of prominence when it came to anything official like feasts.
How the fuck is giving him Lordship, lands and men possibly show that he's not being entrusted and given a lot of shit and support?
He'd be a Lord sooner than Robb and would show leadership skills and how well he can rules for years before Robb could on his own officially. It's like Aegon IV giving Daemon Blackfyre and letting him make his own House.
>>72018325
and then on top of it all there are no gods in the trees and hes praying to himself. everything is fucked up
>>72018719
>Either way, Robb would the rightful heir, so it wouldn't matter if they were getting raised together. Jon wasn't even put in a place of prominence when it came to anything official like feasts.
And that is what Cat is not sure of. Men, as a rule, do not keep their bastards close. It's a grave insult to their current wife, and a possible power struggle just waiting to happen. Ned isn't stupid, so he understands the consequences and the context of bringing home a bastard and demanding it be raised in his castle next to his trueborn son. But he does it anyway.
No one knows that Jon is Lyanna's son. No one knows that Ned is desperately holding on to the last promise he made his sister. All there is to see is Ned favoring his bastard son who resembles him far more than Robb does, and to Cat (who in the book at least is relatively politically savvy), that is both a grave insult and a possible threat. Why else would Ned insist on keeping Jon so close, when he knows it only weakens Cat and Robb's positions?
>How the fuck is giving him Lordship, lands and men possibly show that he's not being entrusted and given a lot of shit and support?
It shows that he is not the heir to Winterfell, and is not being planned to usurp Robb's position. It shows that he is just a bastard son Ned loves enough to give a lordship in his gift restoration project.
>He'd be a Lord sooner than Robb and would show leadership skills and how well he can rules for years before Robb could on his own officially.
Robb would rule whenever Ned was away, and would also publicly be supported by Ned as heir.
> It's like Aegon IV giving Daemon Blackfyre and letting him make his own House.
Daemon Blackfyre was not a threat until he was legitimized on Aegon IV's deathbed. House Blackfyre rebelled because they had a legitimate (due to Aegon IV purposefully and spitefully legitimizing all of his bastards) claim, unlike Jon, the unlegitimized second son who would start a cadet branch.

Why else would Ned insist on keeping Jon so close, when he knows it only weakens Cat and Robb's positions?
But you yourself admit Daemon didn't become a threat until he was legitimized, so Cat is already paranoid for no reason for thinking Jon is gonna try and usurp her kid's shit.
Giving Jon a lordship and power shows a shitload of trust and faith in Jon that Ned's not giving to someone like Bran or Rickon who as second and third born sons usually get nothing and in this case would also get nothing. It'd make Jon more of a threat in Cat's eyes cause he's getting again more recognition than bastards usually get.
>and is not being planned to usurp Robb's position.
Cat's fear isn't that Ned will make him heir, it's that Jon will himself try and usurp shit, or that his own kids will. Jon can more easily usurp when he has a Castle and men of his own and can prove himself by ruling his lands well.
>Robb would rule whenever Ned was away, and would also publicly be supported by Ned as heir.
But he'd still only be acting Lord of Winterfell, not Lord in his own right, unlike Jon.
