Toy Story 2 had a perfect ending. Woody accepted that Andy would one day outgrow his toys but the important thing was to enjoy it while it lasted. It was a story where an immortal object accepted his own form of mortality.
But they had to milk it for one more film and so Andy became some autistic weirdo with an obsession over a childhood cowboy doll any normal kid woulda tossed years ago. They also have the same conveyer belt finale, the same "cute toy turns out to be a villain obsessed with being loved forever" antagonist who ends up strapped in a shitty situation with other toys who are used to it.
Point is anyone who DIDNT think they were going to make a 4th movie is a naive fucking idiot.

Yeah TS2 was perfect. TS3 was not needed.
Not only that. TS3 breaks its own rules of toys not trying to get noticed.
They literally have guards who shine lights around the neighborhood. As if that's not going to attract any attention. This is just off the top of my head. I saw TS3 6 years ago and never bothered with it since. Im sure there are more inconsistencies, because I remember hating the film.

Neither the sequels were needed. In the first movie being "some child's toy" was basically like having a job. You get fired (ie thrown away) you try to find a new one.
By TS2 it became a "muh family is more important" story. I tell you if original Woody had the opportunity to go to Japan he wouldn't have thought twice about it.
In the original everybody was a dick to eachother and not in a "friendly" way. They casted Woody out for being a "murderer" when they had no proofs that he kicked Buzz out of the window.

Yep, this is why I didn't like the change in the sequels. In the third movie he was a total Gary Stu, he was right all along and had a plan to rescue his friends from Lotso. He succeeded in everything even when he failed.

The script for TS3 allowed for some opening for TS4. Woody laments on the loss of Bo Peep at the beginning of the film. This opens to idea that TS4's plot would be about losing Bo Peep or getting Bo Peep back.
