This is continually a problem with race/ethnicity in central and south america. All of the americas (north to south) have 953 million people in them, and if you took the populations just based on apparent ethnicity (e.g. you see a dude walking down the street and without him speaking you go "oh, he's white") the number of those people classified as "white" is roughy 700-800 million people. Brown Hispanics and mexica/inca/native Americans are only a hundred million or so and almost all of those are at least partially mixed.
But in the US it's not about actual ethnicity it's lol-only-brown-is-spanish which is ridiculous.
This is also an issue with Europeans in general. Frequently you hear about how Asians are the most populous people on earth and white people are the "minorities", when in actuality Europeans globally have a population of over 2 billion. And asians only beat them if you include both near east/India and China which are traditionally very different ethnic groups.
