>It had bad pacing
Is this just a short for "I have no idea what I'm talking about but I desperately want to seem like I do"?
No, it's a genuine criticism sometimes.

>pretentious
>contrived
>it was a mess
What are you implying?
That pacing isn't real or that only dilettantes mention it?
>>71953673
It basically means that there were parts in the movie where nothing happened and it was boring
>>71953741
Second.
It has become a catch-all term to excuse ADD and blame the film for it.
>>71953726
>contrived
But this is a legitimate criticism a lot of the time, unless you mean to tell me that lots of writers aren't too lazy and uninspired to not rely on deus ex machina in their work.
>>71953780
Really? I use it for when a movie is moving too fast
>>71953802
No. Resurgence has been the main flick that's been getting the "pacing problems" insult hurled at it lately and it's precisely because it's made for people with ADD.
>>71953780
>>71953896
it applies in both cases

Anyone remember Confused Matthew?
>LANDSCAPE.
>LANDSCAPE.
>LANDSCAPE.
>NOTHING HAPPENING.
-his review of No Country for Old Men
>>71953854
Again, it is valid criticism but it's often misused.
my favorite criticism is when you write what happens in the movie with greentext and add "hurr" and "le" a couple of times to really drive home the point
it's very poignant
>derivative
>pretentious
christ

I honestly don't think it's misused that often, though. Maybe I'm just fortunate in the people I talk about film with IRL.
>People who psyche themselves into hating a film before watching it.
>People who hatewatch a shitty rip just to shitpost on /tv/.

Pacing is a real criticism
Ever seen a movie that had a lot of action or suspense first then long, drawn out boring parts in the middle, then a speedy finish? Or a movie where nothing happens until the last 30 minutes?
Pacing is an essential part of any form of story telling. Movies, novels, even telling a story to your nan.
>>71953673
There are plenty of phoney criticisms that are just that, but complaint of pacing isn't one of them. Stop being dumb.
Is this just a excuse to start a Tails gets trolled thread?
>>71953673
You really are that stupid huh OP
>>71953673
in my experience, people who call out others' observations as 'posing' are usually the ones who are uneducated and have no idea how to wrap their head around basic terminology and concepts. so wrapped up in their own little world are they, that they must see everyone as a mirror of themselves, a custom most infants grow out of by the age of 4.
fitting that i see this complaint so often on this board
