Putting the jokes aside for a moment, even if it wasn't quite what you guys might label """kino""", Ghostbusters (2016) was still a fantastic piece of cinema, one absolutely deserving of all the kudos it's been receiving.
It might not seem apparent to most of you young guys here, but once you're a little older like myself and you've started to raise your own family, you'll soon discover that it's no easy feat trying to find a film that can keep everybody glued to their seats. So once you have found one of those films--like Ghostbusters (2016)--well, the sense of happiness simply can not be overstated.
On my end, I think Chris Hemsworth did a fantastic job providing a level of comic relief that could make any hot-blooded male sputter-up his popcorn and slap his knee. My wife, she was grateful for the decision to cast Melissa McCarthy, a living testament to fact that real women don't need to fit Hollywood's unhealthy, anorexic standards to be beautiful. And Leslie Jones's ability to successfully integrate into a group of European women, without feeling the need to resort to tired tropes of Black tokenism, sets a great example for my wife's son, Jamal.

The movie seems to be getting wholly average, middling reviews, and apparently this is some kind of huge victory or something.

That exact thing happened when they backpeddled after announcing a "Male" version of Ghostbusters, that was originally going to release alongside this one.
Realistically, it really is part of who they chose as actors (actresses, in this case) more than the fact that they were just women.
I remember them throwing around names like Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler for the Male version, and that would have possibly been even more shitty.

From what I've been hearing, it's a mediocre at best comedy that you'll probably forget in a week.
The main problem Ghostbusters had was the marketing team doing everything they can to piss off virtually everyone who might have gone to see a Ghostbusters reboot, while pandering to the hardcore feminists/SJWs, who historically don't do jack shit to support anything that they demand cater to them, as the video games industry discovered in recent years.
Due to that and the fact that it won't be airing in China, I don't see this movie doing very well. That it's not a COMPLETE garbage movie is something of a small miracle by itself.

I don't think a whole lot of people even know about the movie's existence and the people that do know all about the controversies surrounding it.
I think they really blew it by trying to do too much of their own thing. Not necessarily the fact they're all women, but that only tells people that the movie is going to be vastly different from the original. The only way these shitty reboots get any money at all is by appealing to nostalgia and tricking people into thinking they're going to see fresh new take on something they loved without being too diffrent, but with the new Ghostbusters everyone already knows it's way different and doesn't look very good at all.
