Will John Williams give us something akin to these masterpieces in the upcoming installments?

i'm dying to see that giant movie just to hear his music
Did you watch TFA? It was easily the worst OST in Star Wars history so no.
He's getting old. Expect another phoned in performance.
Did you hear TFA? He's lost his touch
Didn't Disney force him to rewrite some of the score?
John williams is overrated
he peaked with
The Phantom Menace 1999
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 2001
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 2002 -
Attack of the Clones 2002 -
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban -
Revenge of the Sith 2005
-denotes ultrapeak
i can hum the melody of the first part of rey's theme and i can sort of remember the heavy strings associated with kylo/the first order as well as the male choir for snoke, but that's about it. his best days are behind him.
>>71924401
i walked out of it two and a half hours ago and could tell you zero about the score
TFA score was shit
>>71924956
No he isn't. That would be Zimmer or Shore. Some things sound similar but his movements are extremely nice to listen to. Hes probably lost it now though idk
>>71924378
age kept him from going to london so I don't think we will get anything great again, last of his music for starwars will be prequels.
We got six movies of music though.
>>71924845
Well if JJ wasn't going to put in any effort to make a decent story then why should Williams?
>>71924969
lol @ you picking this era of his work, far from his best, and then leaving out A.I.
>>71924933
JJ didnt really make a film worthy of a good score, the only highlights were the end jedi steps or whatever and kylos theme from the opener
This is how you can tell TFA is the worst stsr wars film, Williams made a generic score because thats exactly what it called for
Battle of Endor theme best theme
>>71925095
>only six
bruh
>>71924378
No. He's holding back his good stuff for Lucas's secret 7-9 trilogy.
I think I read somewhere that the reason Williams score wasn't as impressive or memorable was because of the particular way that JJ directs scenes. That and apparently he was sick or something. Correct me if I'm wrong.
>>71925044
>That would be Zimmer or Shore.
I haven't seen The Hobbit movies or his recent David Cronenberg movies but I can say with 100% confidence Shore up to like 2006 was one of the best ever.
Zimmer though is a joke, no argument there.
>>71925162
We're talking about great music, there is nothing great about what he did in TFA.
>>71925125
I don't want to fight but I'm fairly musical, have good musical tastes and ive won a competition at the hollywood bowl.. its hard to say something is outright better than something else he did amazing work with his 70s and 80s
I think he was in his prime for HP and the prequels. thats on a relistem. I havent seen AI in a while nor listened to the soundtrack, i will do that.
Duel of The Fates is grossly overrated
>>71925239
one of the best sure, im not hating on him hes much better than zimmer and i like him more. i just like williams more but i hated tfa besides kylos theme. the hobbit has some good soundtracks actually you should just listen to the,
>>71925292
>people catch just a few bars of it an instantly know its starwars
>overrated
>>71925292
There other better tracks
across the stars
confrontation with count dooku and finale from attack of the clones are better
and the jedi temple song used in the movie from rots was actually from the attack of the clones ost
Official john williams score score
1. Star Wars OT
2. Indiana Jones
3. Harry potter
4. Star wars PT
5. Jaws
6. ET
7. JP
8. Minority Report
9. Munich
10. Saving Private Ryan
>>71925292
I kinda wish Duel of the Fates didn't have the Operatic Singers.
Did John Williams do anything for Episode 7?
I doubt it. TFA's soundtrack was surprisingly boring. If he had any good tracks left in him, he certainly would have included at least a few of them in that movie.
>>71925263
>the star wars movies are the only good scores John Williams did
BRUH
>>71925364
No Superman?
>>71925364
Catch me if you Can's soundtrack is easily better than Munich or Minority Report.
>>71925413
Rey's Theme was gorgeous, but one of the only standouts imo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65As1V0vQDM
>>71925364
Cool. I love so many of the HP tracks (and hooper and doyles work too) though that I would put it ahead of Indy because besides the theme song there arent as many heavy hitting songs
We all agree that Yoda's Theme is the best right. It's so comfy and has that feeling of amazement. If there's a heaven it's what I'd want to here as I go up there.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XoRzGeWz0g
>>71925419
Fuck man I forgot that was him replace munich with the superman score then its not quite better than JP about the same level as minority reports possibly better
>>71925414
no no no you got me all wrong, I meant of the starwars movies he did, I'm not talking outside of starwars though, he did great scores out of starwars as well. Only talking about what OP posted,
>>71925099
Fuckin this
>>71925501
oh ok.
>>71925462
This sounds like something that should be paired with adventure and discovery, but none of that happens in the movie. Everyone is just constantly running away from shit.
>>71925192
>was because of the particular way that JJ directs scenes
Now that I think of it, this seems pretty likely. JJ's scenes are by themselves very dynamic and have a lot of closeups. The visuals are doing all the work. The big, bombastic and sweeping scores of the previous movies would probably feel melodramatic and out of place paired with footage like that.
>>71925462
Sounds like something from the later Harry Potter movies.
>>71925565
that is exactly what I thought, kind of reminded me of symphonic stuff from 80s. Minimalism and all that.
>>71925478
I actually like Yoda and the Force better but yea nigga
>>71925413
he must have something in him left right?

if he does Rian will bring it out
>>71925566
I just miss the non-shaky cam and the Camera rolls and all the other bs JJ put into it. None of the other directors pulled crap like that. The shots in his movie would be dramatically better if he learned to not touch his fucking camera.
>>71925596
No that would be this

>>71925635
That fucking snap zoom during the Falcon scene was so goddamn gross.
>>71925364
>No Jurassic Park
>>71925462
nah, doesnt sound like star wars. You and everyone in the videos comments are just trying desperately to convince yourselves the ost is salvageable out of respect for jw
>>71925364
Needs Catch me if you Can
>>71925192
It's as simple as this.
George Lucas, for all he gets, does allow a score to breath. A lot of modern directors for some reason treat them on the same level as sound effects. Sonic wallpaper.
>>71925462
It sounds nice but it doesn't sound like star wars, more like harry potter or chronicles of narnia
>>71925703
Don't even make me remember, I wish I was there while he was filming and randomly punch him in the face every time he designed a scene with a shitty camera gimmick.
>>71925709
What do u think JP stands for m8?
>>71925044
Shore, no matter what he does in the future, will always at least have the fact that wrote probably the most technically advanced film score ever.
The music to LotR is the closest thing the 21st century has to a modern work by Wagner.
>>71925709
>7. JP
>No Jurassic Park
>>71925768
It's also a problem that Force Awakens somewhat condenses both the thematic content of A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back into one film. The scenes feel really rushed in TFA, the music shined because there was a slower pacing.
Just compare the events of the Cantina in A New Hope to Maz's place.
>Cantina
>Luke and Obi-Wan get hang out for a bit while looking for a pilot
>They find Han Solo
>Obi-Wan wastes a guy and Han dispatches Greedo
>They leave and then the chase goes on
>Maz
>Rey and Han meet Maz
>Rey stumbles upon Luke's Lightsaber and we get the dream sequence showing what happened to Luke
>Deathstar planet destroys a whole solar system or some shit
>Epic shootout
>Rey gets kidnapped by Kylo
And I'm certain it's the same amount of time in both films. I just hope Rian can convince Disney to let them slow it the fuck down. I want 8 to be comfy movie with Luke training Rey.
You do realize he doesn't write his scores, right? At best he hums a bar or two and his interns and understudies go off and write the whole thing
>>71926209
He's Williams, not Zimmer.
>>71926209
come on mate the dude watches the film and puts thought into his scores and does compose
>>71925791
Don't forget the ending, should have been an iconic scene, looked like shit.
>>71926237
This. Williams is the last of the old guard of film composers.
>>71926297
The helicopter 180 or drone or whatever shot, jesus that was just jarring.
>>71924845
>Jedi Steps
What the fuck was he thinking?
>>71924845
This
How the fuck did he get an Oscar nomination for TFA over Mad Max and The Revenant?

>>71928337
fuck off with the mad max bs
>>71928337
Fury Road
DUDE
DRUMS
LMAO
>>71925192
that's like what I thought, Williams just can't keep up the pace with JJ's frenetic pace between the scenes
>>71926209
>You do realize he doesn't write his scores, right?
That's completely false. He's not Zimmer who has to rely on a team of composers and orchestrators to help him out. Most of the orchestrators who has worked with Williams in the past has said that his sketches was nearly complete before they got to work on them.
>>71929110
To be fair, what Zimmer does actually props other composers up.
He puts his brand name on things, while giving other people work and exposure. Look at a lot of the names of the people who worked at Remote Control Productions, and see where they started, and where they went.
