>Shit Britain thread
feel free to post about a discuss your favourite 'Shit Britain' films, including British new-wave films!
Saw 'A Kind of Loving' recently and really enjoyed it. Schlesinger also directed Midnight Cowboy which I've never seen, so I'll be sure to check it out soon.
Other favourites of mine:
Naked
Scum
Life is Sweet
Scum has some of the best dialogue in British cinema, and is a really harrowing image of life in a Borstal.
>[Eckersley, Richards and Banks approach Davis]
>Banks: Davis, up!
>[Davis stands up but Banks kicks him. Eckersley laughs]
>Banks: Davis, yer nothing. I'm the Daddy 'ere, I run this wing. You pay yer dues like the rest. Payday, you deliver a quarter of your snout to Stripey 'ere, every week on the dot.
>Davis: I don't smoke...
>Banks: [slaps Davis] You fuckin' well do now, slag! There's no dolly mixtures here, poofter! I'm the Daddy and don't you ever forget it, right?
>[slaps Davis]
>Banks: I said right?
>[shoves Davis and leaves]

thank you very much for this, there was recently a retrospective at my local cinema focused on Ken Loach and I managed to see some real treats.

I think Ken Loach's films are very interesting because, although bleak, they've always got this underlying spirit in them - where adversity is overcome and there's some semblance of justice. Just quite interesting I think.

Thanks very much for the recommendations, I'm currently writing a short-film script about a bingo caller and I'm looking for some inspiration.
I work in the industry so already have a professional crew ready to work on it, but I really want to nail the script.
Missed this though unfortunately:

Apparently it was amazing.
