This is a great photo.

It's not a glamour shot or anything, she's fully dressed, yet it still really "does it for me" if you know what I mean. Definitely some spongy erectile tissue filling with blood. The way she seems overwhelmed by all the things she's carrying, it's almost as if she's in mild distress. You just want to take everything off her hands and tousle her hair. The fact that the material of her tee-shirt is so soft and flimsy, and is also being pulled tight against the right breast by the strap of her handbag. The slightly parted lips and sideways glance. Her girlishly bare legs and innocent, frowsy, sandals. The crowning achievement of the photographer was to capture her in the act of grabbing her handbag and some article of clothing she must have shrugged off earlier. The position of her hand, almost directly over her groin, makes her look like a Greek nymph in a classical painting who has been surprised while bathing. A nymph trying, but not too hard, to preserve some modesty by demurely holding a piece of fabric over her mons pubis.

It's pictures like these that remind me that Western Civilization is still worth saving.

Very true. I think the best trailer was definitely Series 5's.

Reminder that Gareth hates Capaldi now but once said

>I got the rushes sent to me every day and I was punching the air at the performances of Peter, Jenna and Sam.
>>
>>71850926
Yep, because he's hardly likely to slag it off, is he? Also he felt 12 was miscast, so wrote him to his own tastes in The Caretaker, but obvs didn't like anything else of 12.
>>
This could have redeemed Journey's End but it lead to fucking nothing

https://youtu.be/vtxnaxAZfnE
>>
>>71851001
He was singing a different tune on twitter when Series 8 was airing. Something happened behind the scenes, or he got butthurt about not being asked back for series 9. He didn't complain about Capaldi's Doctor being too scary and mean until later, oddly considering that's when Capaldi's Doctor lightened up.
>>
>>71851086
I'd discount the "butthurt" option cos he didn't write for Series 7, and didn't kick up a fuss then. So something else happened for sure.
>>
>>71851001
>Roberts doesn't like 12 because he's not 'nice' but is pretty much the only writer to write him acting like a petty asshole

12 in the Caretaker was just one dimensionally grumpy
>>
>>71851175
He wrote a skit with Matt/Jenna for one of the 50th shows, but was otherwise too busy with the Shada book to do an episode.
>>
>>71850869
This is just such a solid piece of editing in general.
You can see how intelligently considered every single cut is, the way it flows from image to image (e.g. the Doctor shooting a catapult at something -> the window being broken by vampires -> vampire dude waving a torch -> the Doctor waving a sonic), the timing of action to the beat of the music, combining lines with images (e.g. Doctor saying "hold tight" just as River blasts the airlock), the way it uses moments of high action at just the right times to build excitement.

We haven't had anything like it before or since desu.
>>
>>71851216
Still, I don't think he'd have kicked up a fuss, given the chance he might've been instead asked back for Series 10 (which, now, he's just burnt all bridges for the foreseeable). If he hadn't been asked back for Series 10, then I could see him getting pissy about it.

Maybe he asked Moffat about Series 9 and had a heated exchange, leading to a fall-out? As opposed to him just saying "fair enough, no room for me this year but I'll keep quiet and hope to return for Series 10")
>>
>>71851292
I wish he'd come out and say it. If not outright then something subtle, but stick to his guns at least. He either blocks people or claims he's only joking when asked about some of his comments.
>>
Maybe Capaldi asked Moffat to erase Gareth
>>
Maybe Gareth is a fat bitter fuck
>>
>>71851292
I think this is probably what happened. Moffat probably rejected his story idea or just didn't bother contacting him and now hes mad.
>>
They should have 12 regenerate into the valeyard. Full on Doctor evil. Bill then highjacks the tardis and makes a run for it when she realizes what 12 has become. Shes alone isolated. Tardis alarm starts going off. Tardis crashes. Ends up on an alien planet She walks for a bit comes across an old farm house. Comes across an older version of 11. One who survived the events of time of the doctor and returned to galifrey to live out his final days. The planet turns out to be galifrey but in an alternate universe. She explains to 11.1 what happened. 11.1 realizes ok this is bad. Series 11 they team up and search for the valeyard and attemp to restore balance to the universe.

I rewatched Bill's intro video for the first time since April. I was nervous about doing so.

I shouldn't have been. Even though the dialogue isn't Moffat on his prime form, Pearl is actually really charming and charismatic with it, it got a chuckle out of me. I can see in her line readings exactly why they thought she'd be a good choice.

But he wrote him the most one dimensionally grumpy/angry in S8 compared to every other writer. That PE stuff was just dumb desu.
>>

>>71859845
Also, Chibnall worked with him on Broadchurch, so he's probably his favorite.
>>
>>71859881
But that's why he's not good at writing an edgy doc, he doesn't like the idea.
>>
>>71859819
But that's not even what he complains about. He's made digs about 12 playing guitar and trying to be cool, said 12's smiling made him hide behind his sofa, hated the little dance he did in Flatline. He just doesn't seem to like Capaldi in the role.
>>
>>71859845

No he can't, this meme has never had anything to do with reality. Bad Tennant episodes are every bit as insufferable as bad episodes under other Doctors.

What does /who/ even think of Gareth's stories? I thought The One Doctor and The Lodger are great. Not so much The Shakespeare Code.
>>
>>71861413
I think all his tv episodes are either mediocre or crap. His SJA eps are a bit better. I like the Shada novelisation. Haven't read any of his other novels.

Agreed, The Lodger is max comfy while it's almost impressive how many levels The Shakespeare Code manages to be shite on. The Unicorn and the Wasp is pretty comfy as well, but I don't find any of his other tv eps particularly notable.

During the recording of the footage of the maggots around the quarrysite, several of the maggot props were in fact inflated condoms (some inflated with air, others with water). The colliery used for filming was Ogilvie Colliery near Deri, Caerphilly, while Global Chemicals was the RCA International factory in Brynmawr. The script required the Doctor to state that the maggots have "thick chitinous skin". Pertwee asked Producer Barry Letts how to pronounce the word, and Letts, unaware of the term, told him to pronounce the first syllable "chit", rather than the more correct "kite". Two days after Episode 4 was broadcast, Letts received a letter consisting simply of the words, "The reason I'm writin'/Is how to say kitin.

I figure that the only way they can get a time frame on your screencap is by looking at when you post it, working off the assumption that you post it relatively soon after taking it, and then see who was viewing that page at that time. In theory, if you left a long enough interval between the capture and the post, they wouldn't be able to reliably narrow down the culprit.
I might be talking shit though.

Speaking of Phil. I once read on GB someone claimed that he was at the 50th Premiere and got mad at the ending where they saved Gallifrey because it "ruined" his era. Do you think that actually happened?

This is indeed true. He wasn't too happy with the retcon.

His era was already shit.

>“The Day of the Doctor was a success. Record ratings, awards, rave reviews. By any measure, it did alright. But two years later, I’m still haunted by the guilt.”

>He continues: “I know some of you, including friends of mine, were upset that we reversed the outcome of the Time War. My defence, however feeble, is that given the chance, the Doctor would do exactly that. And it was his birthday, how could I deny him that chance? What could define him more? This man who always finds another way? And there he is, at every moment of his life, proving to himself – literally – that there is always a better path.

>“Ah, well. My heart was in the right place, at least. But in this job you always need two!”

>including friends of mine,
>>
>>71870028
It's true. Wonder how RTD felt about it
>>
>>71870130
He's haunted by the guilt of it being a load of shit.
>>
>>71870130
>there is always a better path
I hate Moffat for that. Because he literally can't be arsed writing consequences. Sometimes even the best nicest characters have to make horrible decisions, but not in Moffatland!!! There's always a cheap way out ugh.
>>
The 50th was a disgrace. Decent episode but Steven "I own the show" Moffat turned it into a PHUCKING 8TH ANNIVERSARY OF NEW WHO.
>>
>>71870232
And took the Time War, something which RTD created and which hadn't been mentioned for ruddy ages, and basically shat all over it. Like he did with the entire show with Clara in the timestream.
>>
>>71870186
I think it'd had gotten old imo. It became an easy way to insert some angst and drama. Ithought the part Inversion is the best it'd had been used since maybe Eccleston since it actually factored into the plot and resolution.
>>
>>71870212
>Because he literally can't be arsed writing consequences.
What is the entire Capaldi era?

"There's always a better path" doesn't mean he can't write consequences, it means Doctor Who does not actually need to obsess itself over rehashings of the Trolley Problem and other narratives where mass slaughter is taken for granted. The whole point of having a superintelligent alien who can fly anywhere and contravene time and space is that he is the wild card element in every story, he brings something new and changes the stakes, and the result is it means you can have a more hopeful outcome.
>>
>>71870265
But what did saving Gallifrey do? The Doc should've been happy, but 12 turned out as miserable as ever. So much for freeing him of angst and whatever else.
>>
>>71870212
Yeah I agree. A magic solution every time makes it all pointless. Compromises and no-choice situations often arise.
>>
>>71870153
I think I read an interview where they asked him about the 50th and he said it was fabulous or something. But I guess it's not like he would say it was bad even he thought so. At least not in an interview.
>>
>>71870284
The Time War was one time the Doctor couldn't find a more hopeful outcome, and it became a big part of his overall story/character. But nope, 8 years after the event, oh look, he finds another way out! Yay for taking that away from us.
>>
>>71870284
>What is the entire Capaldi era?

So far, it's been a build up to Clara's death, depicting how becoming like the Doctor has consequences. Then she dies. This is the consequence. Then she doesn't die and gets to fly away in a magic Cafe TARDIS with her sassy companion.

Moffat has a habit of creating great endings, then shitting on them. Amy and Rory is another example of this, they should've died jumping off the roof
>>
>>71870320
Moff even cheapened it for me by making the War Doctor. 8 is already dead so has no choice, but he literally ignores the name of "the Doctor" and drinks a magic potion to be able to deal with the War, and then takes on the mantle of "the Doctor" again once it's done. It felt so cheap to me. It's on a par with saying if the Doc ever faces a horrible situation ever again, he can just say "right, I'm not the Doctor anymore", do the horrible deed, shun those memories and crack on. It feels like a shitty way out.

In my head, it was 8 in the Time War, as the Doctor... but as a hopelessly lost Doctor who had no choice but to fight, as opposed to drinking a magic warrior potion for a bit.
>>
>>71870350
Exactly this. Moff tends to do something bold or great, but then chucks it all away episodes later.
>>
>>71870338
B..but it's trapped in a pocket universe!

Oh no. There it is. It's back and without explanation.
>>
>>71870420
Hey look, there's Rassilon, that utter fucker who tried to ascend to becoming a God and who became an outright monster.

Oh, okay, the Doctor told him to fuck off and, uh, he just... yep, he walked off and that was that. EH.
>>
>>71870350
I didn't mind the Clara stuff as much as everyone else but I have to agree on Angels Take Manhattan. The suicide scene was really emotional. Amy chooses to go with Rory and then they die together. But then basically the exact same thing happens directly after except they go back in time. Rory also got really shafted. "Oh look my grave, oops"
>>
>>71870381
He forced a new Doctor to force his regeneration reset.
There was no need to force all that in all at once.
>>
>>71870338
>Yay for taking that away from us.
Oh no. Whatever will we fucking do without the abstract concept of the Doctor having had to do something terrible. We're lost, I tell you.

Moffat went to exhaustive pains to make sure none of the Doctor's characterisation since 2005 was actually unwritten. Half the special was about how the decision to destroy Gallifrey made the Doctor who he is in the new series. He even went as far as having 10 and 11 literally go up to War and accept their mutual guilt. What has meaningfully been 'taken away'? Sweet fuck all.
>>
>>71870455
Yup, Moff always wanted to "solve" the 13 limit even though he wasn't there - more of him wanting to stamp his mark on everything, so Hurt provided the perfect opportunity for it.He would've done it anyway though, regardless. Even if Matt had still been 11, the end of Time of the Doc would've still granted him a new cycle in advance just so Moff could say he was the one to 'solve it'.
>>
>>71870467
Go back to Gallifrey Base and lick Steven Hill's arse, you utter idiot. Moff did a magic retcon cos it was easier for him. Simple as that.
>>
>>71870467
Day of the Doctor: 10 is literally bursting with joy that he gets to save the planet, omg squeeee yay!

One episode later, for him, The End of Time: "omg they're all utter fucking bastards, fuck the Time Lords, send them back into hell!"

Oh, but Moffat inserted "what about da poor kiddiwinks!" out of nowhere to justify it. What a load of balls.
>>
>>71870501
Yup. I could have been done so much better and over time.
You could have created a new thing with different rules. Made it unpredictable. Made it dangerous.
You could have justified race/sex change in the new framework.
Moffucked.
>>
Fuck Moffat. Hopefully Chibnall retcons his era and we can start fresh right after End Of Time.
>>
>>71870350
>Then she dies. This is the consequence. Then she doesn't die and gets to fly away in a magic Cafe TARDIS with her sassy companion.
Sounds like an ideological dispute to me.
Moffat didn't actually think "becoming like the Doctor means YOU DIE, HAHA!" was a story worth telling. And frankly I agree.
This is not a meaningful message for audiences because the Doctor is not real. He is almost defined by his unreality. Furthermore, the Doctor is the hero of the show - he's been presented many times as something to aspire towards. For someone to want to be like him, die, and for the show to then go "welp you had it coming!" would seemingly contradict that.

What actually ends up happening? Because the Doctor and Clara had such a strong bond, the Doctor ended up breaking all kinds of rules (as is his way) in order to secure a different fate for her. And she ended up with a strange and melancholy one, but one that deliberately parallels the Doctor's own story. She transcended, becoming something just as unreal as he is.
If you tried to be like the Doctor in real life, you probably would die. But if you tried to be like the Doctor and he was your best friend, who's to say he wouldn't change things?

Rory and Amy are both shit characters though. I could not see a single aspect of them I liked. Rory was literally who and Amy was meme tier. The pregnancy arc and the 'meet my extended family arc' almost put me on a one way bus to the Doctor Who EU forever.

Frankly, I wish we'd return to the days whereby companions left of their own accord and the Doctor was fine with it. The Ponds and Oswald exits were botched and shite, IMO. Wish they hadn't bothered. I actually preferred the Pond exit in The God Complex, to what we eventually got.
>>
>>71870631

>>
>>71870634
But Rory is based.
>>
>>71870667
Both Clara and the Ponds got several perfectly fine exits, before the melomdramatic shit that turned out to be their final.
>>
>>71870664
Would've been nice to see that play out more though, as opposed to being told that was the case. Where was the rest of the high council to revolt against Rassilon? All we saw were some shit villagers and about 10 random collared Time Lords stood in a row while Rassilon shouted a bit and then stormed off. Rassilon barely even fucking tried, and it was poor. Dalton would've raged against the Doctor and the entire planet if necessary to try and win.
>>
>>71870699
Completely agreed. Moff seems to want his cake and eat it, and provide about 4 exits each to make everyone happy somehow.
>>
>>71870667
Sadly YA fiction demands TRAGEDY!! at every stage.
The Doctor's special snowflake can't decide to leave as she's been built up as his One True Love, so the story has to be super contrived to get rid of her.

>>
>>71870796
Yup. It was rather a damp squib. Moff felt the Clara and Ashildr stuff was more interesting than the Gallifrey stuff, clearly. In which case, he shouldn't have bothered with the Gallifrey stuff. Or, as you say, the focus should've been better spread across the episode. The Doc literally only uses Gallifrey as a means to get Clara back, then fucks off again anyway. Waste of time.
