honestly GotG's opening scene was one of the things that I had the biggest problem with, and part of why I couldn't stand the movie when I saw it (the other big part was seeing it at a convention with 1000 screaming nerds everywhere).

It goes from an emotional scene of his mom dying from cancer, to him abducted by aliens, to him dancing around without a care, in the span of 1 minute. GotG's tone was all over the place, jumping from light-hearted space adventure to super serious character death or attempted genocide shit, and the opening was the worst when it came to that

It doesn't matter that the character had 20 years to deal with his mom's death. The problem is that we don't FEEL that because the tone is so wildly different in such a short span of time.
