Theoretically, Chrissy was caught between a rock and a hard place. Like another anon mentioned ITT, a lot of guys in the gang didn't really treat Chrissy that good (inb4 "he just couldn't handle the banter"), and he had no other outlet for his feelings and issues besides shooting up.

You know, in retrospect, the moment Chris really became irredeemable was when he went berserk and drunkenly shot up Tony's car. Tony was ready to put a bullet in Chrissy's head then and he hesitated. Letting Chris slide then just made things worse for Tony in the end, Chris became a ticking time bomb. In the end Paulie was right, "this blood relation shit can't protect you forever"

That's why Paulie was so successful in the mob. He pretty much worked his way up the ranks by himself like Napoleon instead of getting it passed down to him.
