It is a comic series and has been since the Gold Key days. The point is that he lectures on the manchildness of capeshit as if nuTrek was any better. It shed the philosophy and nuance for action and quips. It's the same thing, or worse for giving up what it once was to pander to those man children.

That's more or less what every Star Trek movie does... We get a new TV series that's what we want. Not a comic book adaptation of the shows.
Star Trek having action films is not pandering, no one would fucking watch the movies if it was like the TOS movies. TNG movies were all action sequences. This one explores TOS younger years more without tripping over the cannon. It's great.
There's so much Star Trek you can't really fuck it up at this point, we call that Deep Space 9.

At least voyager had some action, and the Doctor and what not. I have gotten people into Star Trek and TNG and Voyager, and tried for DS9 but no one likes it. It's worse then TOS. it's just talking and talking and then Odo should be awesome but the dudes just a puddle of CGI.
