Mr. Gilbert

Height 6' 8" (2,04 m)

Are you as tall
>>
>>71793090
Christ, I wish.
>>
This show has aged very weirdly for me. Because I'm British and related to every detail, it feels like a picturesque slice of 2008-2011 that's hard to watch for me
>>
>Brits claim their comedy is miles of sophicitaion above the USAs

I think thats why it doesn't really get a huge amount of criticism on here, even though its very normiecore, its totally relatable and everyone has experienced at least some of what they do on the show

I like how british shows actually have lower middle class houses that look like people actually live there. Not some ridiculous penthouses for waitresses.

Malcolm in the Middle comes close without looking too artificial
>>

I always remember the scene when one of the younger teachers walks past them and they all go "Phwoar, Mrs. Smith is so fit" and Will looks confused at them all and replies "No she's not, she's just the only female teacher under the age of 30." I remember simultaneously cringing and laughing at that because there was a teacher exactly like that at my school, and years later we bumped into her in a bar and were like "Did she always look like that? Has she aged badly?"

This so hard, I'm not quite as jaded as him yet since I've only been in the job a couple of years but I look at some of the other teachers in my school who've been doing it for decades and know I'll get there eventually.
>>
>>71793425
Oh cmon US audiences have an allergic reaction to anything that wasn't murican. Subtitles used to be the excuse on why they have to remake the entire thing, but for English speaking shows there is no excuse. Americans are insulated and like it that way. The internet is the only way to get the original stuff, tv networks simply won't show it
>>
>>71793565
>Oh cmon US audiences have an allergic reaction to anything that wasn't murican

Not true at all, Monty Python is incredibly popular there to this day.
>>
>>71793551

Not the person you're replying to, but my experience of teachers is that a lot of them love teaching, but hate all the bullshit that comes with it like marking, planning etc.

Not as rewarding as it used to be they say
>>
>>71793583

That's 1. Keep going. See if you can name anything newer. Also how many or of this list applies: spaced, father ted, it crowd, black books, cucumber

Yeah, and they don't get it. They just laugh at the silly walks. They don't understand satire or irony.
>>

They nailed the typical group of high school boys in most Commonwealth countries.

The friend shit was something you could clearly picture your friends doing just to piss you off. The time Will went to the bottle store in Simon's dad's clothes was so much like the first time I tried to buy drinks.
>>
>>71793583
Is all Monty Python popular, or just The Holy Grail and The Life of Brian? I could probably count on one hand how many Monty Python sketches I know.

That's exactly it. Teaching is great, but OFSTED and their fucking box ticking about paperwork is getting ridiculous. Not to mention all the other shit.

For example, I teach English, and as of this year we can't teach any Non-British literature at GCSE, thanks to Gove. Fucking bullshit.

>tfw you all know someone like Jay
>>
>>71793730

The banter was spot on as well. The fact they were constantly spinning what each other said into double entendres was great, especially the lame comebacks "Brilliant Jay..."
>>
>>71793597
Oh I love teaching, but teenagers acting like children like they do in The Inbetweeners definitely does get eye roll worthy very quickly, even if you know you were the exact same. I certainly empathise with Gilbert a lot.
>>
>>71793749
Top gear is huge everywhere, and they still had a US remake. John oliver is on an American show.
Frankly you can keep him
>>
>>71793270

>>
Why are britbong threads always so boring?
>>
>>71793851
You can't boil top gear down as a British comedy show. Most comedy shows don't get ten million quid an episode busgets with free equipment use from the air force and navy and product placement from super car manufacturers
>>
>>71793878
lol
>>
Why are british people so ugly?
>>
>>71793987
In Britain, actors are cast based on acting ability. In America, they are cast on looks. So on average, people in British shows are uglier, but much better actors.

Just look at the American Inbetweeners, where all the 'actors' looked like GQ models, and were clearly cast based on looks rather than talent.
>>
>>71794112
>he thinks american Jay is attractive.

>>71793425
Why do americans feel the need to change everything when importing a UK show to the US? I mean our language is 95% similar to yours.

The first film was cracking too, I've done Magaluf (pre-blowjobgate) and Malia with my own slightly awkward mates, it was so uncomfortably true. Except the girls.

I didn't like your shitty britbong show, so I must've grown up a friendless loser? I had friends, had some similar experiences as to ones in the show. It doesn't make a re-enactment of pretty basic childhood events funny.

>Because they need to edit down 60 minute shows to fit 45 minute slots (another reason to buy the BBC DVDs). They cut up and rearrange footage as needed and then rerecord the dialogue to match. There are also references and measurements that wouldn't make sense to an American audience. Most of the shows can be purchased under the BBC name (originals) or Discovery/TLC/etc (broadcast US versions) in the US.

That's a shame for Americans, Sigourney Weaver has a great voice but David Attenborough has so much passion emanate from his voice that I feel they're missing out a bit. After hearing five minutes of Oprah I wanted someone to murder her.
