It was a case of him just loving her show and flying her out to do an interview simply because he really liked the show.
That's what I loved about Craig, when he found passion for something he talked about it, he had a shit timeslot and a shit set in the basement of CBS and he knew the stakes were low as fuck so he just did what he wanted. He had an episode with only puppets, he had a robot skeleton co-host who for the first few months only said eight repeated expressions over and over again. When the Voice Actor for the robot was away he replaced him with random comedians and celebrities(Larry King ran the robot for a night and it was hilarious), he insulted his audience at random every other night, improvised a bunch of his monologues on the fly instead of just rote reading them like Colbert does, never promoted anyone's movies, TV shows, books, albums or films more than the four seconds he had to when he introduced the guests, pissed on the network for everything that went wrong with the show, and he had passion for what he was doing while trying to subvert the central premise of late night shows.
James Cordon was a good replacement, not because he's talented at it on the same level as Craig was or anything but because he changed the format with all the guests out at the same time to bounce off each other and sharing stories and he also seems to genuinely enjoy doing his job which makes for a fun easy to view experience.
