Fox is the reason Futurama never saw it's true Potential.
They gave Matt Groening a lot of leeway with The Simpsons when Fox was hurting financially. That is why the first several Seasons of The Simpsons were amazing. Groening had almost complete free reign to write the show the way he wanted it.
By the time he was ready to do Futurama, Fox had recovered and was much more stable with it's money. They didn't feel like they needed Groening as much as before so they strongly limited what he could do with Futurama, they prematurely canceled the show despite it's incredible popularity and at the height of Matt Growning and his writer's glory days.
It wasn't until Comedy Central bought the rights that Groening was able to continue the storyboard he'd built for Futurama a decade before.

I strongly remember this being really damn popular in the late 90's, then for some reason went completely obscure after it ended. It's never acknowledged, referenced, or anything. Which is a damn shame, the show is late 90's comfy as fuck visually and still holds up with fantastic adult humor.

It was made by the guys who made Earl, but I think after S1 it got kinda stale, it still had funny episodes sometimes, but it got "too safe", basically after the main guy (don't remember his name) gets Sabrina everything is happy and sunshine, at least Earl had some "grittiness" to it.
