No way is persona mediocre. Yeah, I agree that the symbolism can be cheap (the combined faces of LIv and Bibi is a little too obvious) but it talks about large, abstract themes in a beautiful way. How well we can really know ourselves and others, the masks we wear, the difficulty of communication through speech and art. Not to mentions it's simply beautiful to look at.
I watched Persona with a room mate in college and he found it absolutely boring. "It's just people talking". Well yeah, Bergman specialized in live theater and chamber dramas. The film is a very personal experience for many people, if just didn't click with you.

no, i'm very unbiased when i watch films, so even if it didn't click with me, i would still appreciate it for it's artistic merit, so i say it's mediocre, not bad, because i appreciate what Bergman did, but it's definitely a very flawed film and like i said, not one of his better films

yes, that's why i love other of his works, very well thought realistic dialogues backed by painful imagery (most of the time), for me, that's when Bergman shows his genius
