Highly overrated. Especially shit like episode VI. Fuck, the only good one was V, the OT is blown out of proportion.

No, it can't be understated how fucking influential and great 1977 Star Wars was.

It was the perfect adventure movie with an even better sequel.

The hero's journey is classic form of storytelling. One of the most relatable and enjoyable stories in the history of fiction. Star Wars is the best reincarnation of that. Add things like
-the wonderful score
-imaginative worlds
-interesting characters
-fun comedic reliefs characters like C3PO and R2
-one of the coolest fictional weapons ever made (lightsabers)
-one of the most iconic Villains in the history of film (Vader)
-groundbreaking special effects
-an almost perfect release window
And you got yourself one of the biggest cultural influences in the history of entertainment. It's something we can watch regardless of age, gender, or race and still enjoy. It inspired many people as kids to write their very own stories and kickstarted their imaginations to think beyond of our limited reality into world of unbounded creativity and wonder. Even as adults it brings us back to a time of when our lives were much simpler. It transcended all mental and personal barriers into something that has at least brought us two or so hours of just simple enjoyment and fun.

It's the perfect definition of a movie. A compelling story that dazzles the viewer.

Define Star Wars.

The series that turned big budget movies into low-bro adventure schlock for all time.

Look up some reviews written around the time of its release. It's not actually highly rated, so it can't be over-rated.

Box office success equals not a metric for quality.

He's right though. foreign audiences think star wars especially the OT is nothing special and in fact boring
>>
>>71727868
It is a little overrated by audiences, but the main exhaustion is through overblown marketing which sparks interest in people who aren't huge fans.
>>
>>71728270

People consider the films classics now, so they are overrated even though they weren't back then. If anything, critics back then rated the films more accurately. They were shit.

I fucking hate star wars. always have. When I mention i don't care for it around other people they act like i said all niggers must die or something. It is very overrated, the story is campy, effects are overrated, characters aren't memorable enough to keep my attention.

This. It was the original EPIC movie.

If it's overrated, and there's nothing related coming out soon, for what purpose are you talking about it?

It's held back from greatness by its own audience. They just want it to be the same shit over and over again, always afraid of change. That's why the new movie was so successful. It's a carbon copy of ANH and has the same characters and factions.

The potential is there, though.
