Few good tv shows: Stromberg, Doctor's Diary, Der Tatortreiniger. Deutschland 83 and Im Angesichts des Verbrechens is supposed to be really good, but I didn't watch it.
Angst essen Seele auf from Fassbinder is amazing.
There are some good Austrian movies, but those are pretty much impossible to understand if you're not a native speaker.

It's filmed in one take, so maybe something for you film nerds. Plot is pretty slow and boring at first, and doesn't really get good with some logical issues, but yeah it's a nice experiment.

A more precise statement would be that I don't like the guy, as he pretends to be artsy and meaningful, while what I know of his stuff is borderline kitsch. A true Warmduscher. But I suppose that's subjective.
Himmel über Berlin though is the one time where it works out: A quite gigantic symbolism keeps the meekishness in balance and gives an overall interesting story; great visuals of Berlin in the 80s; quite different to the regular, and even somewhat meaningful. I was surprised how much I liked it
