It works really well in conjunction with S3 though. Did a rewatch of the show after finishing season 4 and they flow a lot better watched together than the other seasons. Probably because S4 starts up immediately after 3 ends, and the whole MCC/guard walkout shit building up the big storyline for 4.

While the writers were almost definitely going for the stance of 'it's different, she's trying to express her individuality', it actually showcases what a selfish, spoilt brat she is
Or the tranny that stole loads of money to get srs. It's supposed to be one person defying all odds no matter the cost to be true to themselves. But what we get is a broken family and a violent inmate that starts rioting and self-harming the second they're put in isolation

If you have nothing better to do. It took me till the middle of season 2 to really start enjoying it. It's all about Piper in the first season and she's such a hateable character it almost makes the show unwatchable, but after they start unwrapping some of the other characters more it gets better.

Wasn't it implied he did some fucked up shit in the mens' prison that got him transferred? Could be he was fucking them but for all that he's gay that seems too basic.
I see it more likely he was an asshole and the inmates started being assholes openly back and giving him shit if they found out he was gay. He upped the anti instead of just letting it go and got caught in a bad position.
I say that just because it feels realistic. My brother was telling me about how in prison there'd be a mix of cool/scared/asshole/chill-just-a-job guards and for the real asshole ones it never got to protest levels everyone just collectively decided to fuck with that guard in particular. Pranks, talking shit, doing anything to make their days harder but touching them. Just keep doing that shit till a guard loses it and gets transferred. And all the different races/gangs will team up just to fuck with a particular guard if he's bad enough.

That female guard is probably gonna kill him. She's the least likely to support him of all the guards and might do it herself to save the inmates from having to do it. Or he dies some stupid way and they're ready to blame the inmates but she testifies otherwise cause she hates him too.
The episode wherethe Mexican girls jump Piper and brand her with a swastikagave me nightmares; no lie.
For a show that prides itself on sympathetic characters the guards were awfully unsympathetic.
Humps was like a slasher movie villain and Piscatella was too much of an asshole. When that one guard started talking about how he used to rape and strangle women or make young boys juggle live grenades in Afghanistan I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
Bayley is the only innocent and he's going to be sacrificed to appease the bloodthirsty public.

The girl and psychos friend that knows he's a psycho seem ok. They both say they know he's fucked up and feel they should do some shit but that military ingrained "us v them" and "defend your own" shit keeps them from doing what's right.
Plus rapey guy got oddly sympathized there. And the old guards were very sympathized. It's really just the new ex military guards that are made less sympathetic.
I fucking hated Piscatella being all "hurhur bitch all you want but LOOK AT ME MY ACTIONS CAUGHT THE KILLER" when really nothing he did matter, none of his interrogation bullshit, dude just came in saying "yeah I know who did it" and it was a girl they never pulled to interrogate.
