The villain is more two dimensional in Pans Labyrinth than in any MCU film.
But they use this as a contrast of the pure evil of a Spanish dictator with the pure good of a child. And it gets old quick.
Meanwhile, the kid eats a grape just to move the plot along instead of just sticking it in her pocket.
Then the girl gives the dictator superficial wounds just so the movie doesn't end too soon.
Pans Labyrinth is a beautiful looking film that has love and passion of the filmmakers pouring out of every scene. It's just a shite script.

Hara Kiri: Death of a Samurai
Some of the best visual story-telling I have seen in years. You don't need to read the subtitles to understand what is going on. It has an excellent twist in the end that I did not see coming.

Man, I love Pan's Labyrinth ( and Devil's Backbone ) but I respect that you aren't as into the sharp contrasts.
At least you acknowledge it's beautifully done so I can respect that you aren't into the way the themes are presented.
I know one woman who can not handle the fact that the movie has an ending that can be interpreted as 'sad' and goes out of her way to discredit anything good about the movie. She can't even acknowledge how great the character designs and SFX. Even though she is hardcore into Changeling... meaning you'd think she would eat this shit up. But nope.
Muh child death = WHOLE MOVIE BAD WRONG people are like the reverse of edgelords but somehow equally annoying.
