I disagree. In order to reignite the WWII genre, it'll have to be popular. It won't be popular because it doesn't focus on Americans, it takes place before the Americans are in the war, and the "good guys" don't win in this story. I'm not saying it should do any of these things, by the way. WWII had an immense setting and there should be more movies that tell untapped content, but mainstream moviegoers don't seem to go for that.
We can be hopeful that the movie might be wonderful, because of Nolan, but popular? Unlikely.
I'm just glad that, from the set photos, we probably won't have any racial/gender diversity quotas injected into this historical setting.

Well the Allies gave Poland full rights to annex large parts of Germany if they refused the German deal, and they probably thought the Allies were more powerful and would easily win and not just use them as a pawn sacrifice to gain time.
I'm really excited to see this. I liked Interstellar, although mostly for its visuals and less its story. The original script was fucking fantastic, and if Spielberg had done it, would have been one of his best. But the overall tone and theme of the script was not a good fit for Nolan, who uses the same tone and style in all of his films and isn't as much suited to a humanistic space epic.
I feel a war movie is a much better fit for his style, tone and general sensibilities.
