it's an okay b/grindhouse type movie. nothing really outstanding or brilliant about it and the final act is rather dumb, to be honest. however, it's an entertaining midnight flick to watch with some friends. nothing really stellar about the narrative, acting, or cinematography and that's a letdown after Blue Ruin, which was superb.

Everything from the point that the skindhead girl screams 'they're killing us!!" to when they team up with Derek Waters and head into the woods is pure adrenaline cortisol and norepinephrine fuel. I liked how the intensity of the dog mauling was done with abruptly soft noises in general silence contrasting the panicked fleeing and screaming of the other band members, like a negation of the jump scare in reverse. Created a strong, visceral feeling with a nauseating sensation for me, similar to the scene of Anton Yelchin's arm being mutilated.

Strategically it makes more sense to keep the majority of your men outside to surround the building and have at least one person posted in front of every exit than it does to sweep into building with a larger group to thrush out the band kids if doing so means leaving points of egress totally unguarded. They might all be lurking near a single window in the farthest rear of the building waiting for an opportunity to bolt. If they are able to escape out that window unnoticed while you're storming the entrance then you will end up searching the ENTIRETY of the facility before discovering that it is empty and they have already escaped who knows how long ago.

When Derek Waters went outside to go get the gun from their office they should have started brawling to get out of the building until they escaped. The nazis couldn't really pummel all of them into submission without attracting attention from the crowd and if even one of them escapes out they might as well escort all of them outside to talk it out and buy time.
Dooming themselves by blowing the clearest and best possible opportunities they had to escape or defend themselves just compounds their desperation once the situation is entirely and unequivocally fucked.
