You can't adapt a Stephen King book as a movie. They're all bad. Only Shining has an honorable mention thanks to Jack Nicholson.

I'm actually reading through it right now on the recommendation of a friend and it's... okay? Very meandering. I've read a few other King novels, and while he's often got a lot of good ideas he's also very self indulgent and sloppy, including stuff he doesn't need to or probably shouldn't have. So far The Stand is bearing that out.

I like movies like The Thing or The Witch precisely for those reasons, but they're just not scary, they have a great atmosphere, and an interesting mystery that makes you want to watch them, but actual fear? I've never felt that with a movie since I was a kid.

No.

Most of King's work reads like you're reading something a 14 year old nerd would write.

The only book I could get through of his was "It"....and just barely.

I honestly tried "The Stand" and "The Talisman", but just couldn't force myself to finish them...

yfw this book is the source of so many mass shootings in america
>>
>>71671966
You're right, I'm fully aware it will NEVER be adapted but I think that has less to do with King hating it and more to do with the protagonist being a school shooter. Everyone would accuse it of glorifying school shooters and most cinemas would probably refuse to play it.

>suprisingly sexual

I don't know why it's surprising. Sex is the whole point of that book. King even says as much in the text. Making the monster's name "It" refers to sex itself, in that little kids use it as a euphuism for the act, IE "did they do IT", "are they doing IT" "what do you know about IT." The who novel is about the pain and fear of growing up, with sex as the threshold guardian.
>>

Actually, its about the Crimson King's use of agents to destroy the beams, but whatever....
>>
>>71672333
I just saw the movie and picked up the book to find it filled with 13 year old train sex, magic jews, no homo blowjobs, impotence, and a woman getting off to degration from her abusive husband

Though when you say it like that it makes 100% sense

You guys should read the newest collection of short stories from King. He is really good when it comes to short stories imo. Did quite enjoy 11.22.63 though, quite good book. Ending was ok though

11.22.63 was good, though it suffers still from the same problem every King book does where it's at least 1/3 too long. I get that he wanted to get is involved in the world of 1963 but it seriously drags so slowly at some points.

I do agree with that, that he drags sometimes things for too long. So like you, i wish it was a bit shorter. The bazaar of bad dreams is the newest short stories book called. Do recommend reading that one as some of the stories are really good.. And i think it's here where he sort of shines, because with short stories he can't drag absolutely everything out.

Richard Bachman > Stephen King
>>
Can anyone explain to me what is this shared universe you people talk about? IT and the Stand And Salem's Lot? How are they related? I've only seen the movies.

Who is the Crimson King?
>>
>>71673115
>Who is the Crimson King?
It just works
>>
>>71673115

The Dark Tower is really the lynch pin of it all. In the Dark Tower they move between different times and possibly dimensions. Calahan from Salem's Lot ends up in the story and the main cast even meets Stephen King who has been literally creating these worlds as he was writing them.
>>
How creepy would Melissa Mccarthy be as Pennywise?

>>71673068

>Author's name bigger than the book's title
>>
>>71673115

Oh also the Crimson King is just the bad guy of the Dark Tower, nothing more needs to be said of him.
>>
>>71673180
Dang, sounds interesting. Guess I should read the Dark Tower then.
>>
>>71672892
the preteen gangbang is pretty common knowledge. As it comes up any time anyone mentions any version of It, anywhere.
>>
>>71673225

It starts out outstanding. Fair warning that when they get to the multi-verse stuff at book 5 it starts degrading in quality pretty quickly. Still worth reading I think but it's not the greatest ending.
>>
>>71673115
The Dark Tower series is about an alternate universe. Or a multi-verse. And there is an uber-bad guy trying to destroy it all.

Most of King's work have references to the Dark Tower series. For example: a main character in Salem's Lot shows up in the Dark Tower. One of the main agents of the Crimson King is a bad guy in several other novels.

Ironically The Running Man would translate decently well to a movie if they kept the breakneck pace and kept it around 90 minutes
>>
>>71673180
> who has been literally creating these worlds
Eh, more like tapping into them. Or something.

But yea, the idea is the dark tower links together all the different realities of the universe, the bottom being literally hell, heaven being somewhere up top, but it stretches on infinitely in either direction so unless some truly catastrophic shit happens, by accident or otherwise, top and bottom layers don't bleed towards the middle layers (our worlds) much.

The only problem is king's dark tower stuff is infinitely more interesting than any of the books that contain any of it.

It could be a fantastic thriller. But since they did the Arnold one already the odds are slim to none.
>>
>>71673327
You don't need to read it to know about it.
>>
>>71673263

>but it's not the greatest ending.

Understatement of the century. It's a cheap, lazy, unsatisfying ending by someone who didn't seem to give a shit in the last book.

I got pissed off by the ending and then after the shitshow of Cell, I stopped reading King.

Clive Barker > King

Even if Barker is a parody of himself sometimes: "he saw a demon, that demon had a huge errection! He turned and saw another demon. That demon had a huge erection"

Outside The Dark Tower series it was mostly limited references to fictional locations that appeared in his other stories. Like in The Stand they mention the town from Children of the Corn and Derry, Maine, but not the event's that took place there.

The Crimson King appears in Insomnia and The Dark Tower series.

Forgot about the faggotry King included.

>>
>>71673717

Derry's reputation as a town where people do shitty things is mentioned in a few books and Pennywise is referenced in Dreamcatcher.

Also Randal Flagg is in The Stand and Needful Things
>>
>>71673910

And he's in the Dark Tower.

The Crimson King wanted to destroy everything because he forgot the key to his balcony door inside.

The unrealistic part about Rage though isn't that Charlie shoots a few grown-ups, but that he manages to go all Manson and get his dipshit classmates to sympathize for him.
Still, it's hilarious how butthurt about it King is. We can always hold shit like Rage and It's child orgy over his head.
