I wanted to talk about the show.
Really liked it.
It lacked the misterious dread of the first season, but I loved the grounded misery it portrayed.
It was less thriller and more of a cop show.

It always bothered me how much the case progression in S2 relied on plot conveniences and coincidences.
Velcoro just happened to be connected to Frank, who was in business with Caspere.
Ani's father just happened to have connections to Caspere and his associates through his spiritual movement; her sister just happened to have connections to the organisers of the sex parties because she was a massive slut; Ani just happened to take an interest in that Latina girl that had gone missing and that turned out to intimately know Caspere.
Woodrugh just happened to have worked for a private security firm that were now contracted by the real-estate development company that Caspere was working with.
It's an overload of connections between the detectives and the case that just makes the whole thing less believable, and increasingly difficult to keep track of.
The only thing in S1 that was vaguely similar to this, was when Rust happened to have a connection to the drug gang that were working with Ledoux from when he worked undercover in Vice, and that was at least somewhat plausible.

I'd give S1 a 4.5/5, and S2 a 3.5/5.
S2 definitely wasn't as bad as many people claim. S1 just was much better, mainly because of the Southern Gothic atmosphere, the tighter focus on the case, and the unique narrative structure.
The performances were all on point and while it wasn't as high concept as the first season, I loved it.
Season 2 threads were better than season 1 threads, desu.

I loved season 2, perhaps even more than season 1. I'm a huge fan of LA noir (not the video game but the genre) and season 2 scratched that itch entirely. More structural analysis and corruption and less mysticism in season 3, pls.

It had hints of cosmic, unknown horror (particularly towards the end with celestial imagery). Too bad the actual season was very lacking in that department. Le birdman didn't really cut it, and the cult Annie's dad was a part of was just a background thought.
