A lot of the newer American Dad skits use a different sense of humor that I don't really like, and this Rubbernecking is a good example of it. I can't really put my finger on it, there's just something low quality about it.

I would start around season 3 or 4, work your way to maybe season 8-9 and then go back to 1-2 to be able to get a better appreciation for it, it's a fucking great show man and it doesn't deviate in quality like family guy does, the writing and jokes stay solid throughout the series which doesn't happen often

Yeah I definitely get what you mean. I think it's just the jokes in the newer ones flow less organically. Like in the earlier ones there are some great lines like:
"Is that a Chinese baby?"
"Sure is! Japanese, to be specific".
And that's that, and it's funny as fuck, but now they need to do a little fanfare for most of the jokes and drag them out past the peak humour point.

I think it has a lot to do with Roger. Think about it. He has a base effeminate, selfish personality, but he loves to play dress up. They found a way to create an endless amount of characters preventing the show from becoming stale.
