I literally fucking cried during the death of superman and his funeral procession.

How did snyder do it? How did he make a capeshit film so powerful?
>>
>>71620613
>that batman intro

I never knew I wanted a batman film filmed like a horror movie until this film.

Bravo, Snyder. Truly Hollywood's most underappreciated action director.
>>
Why the fuck wasn't the ultimate cut the one played in cinemas? It literally patched every hole in the theatrical.
>>
This is the first time I was up and cheering with the crowd. When aquaman showed up the whole theater was just in a frenzy of cheers and hooting and hollering. Marvel really should take notes.
>>
>the christ symbolism

truly, the patrician superhero film we deserved. Unsurprising that the plebs hated it.

Apparently some scenes like the train death, burning of bodies and warehouse fight scene were a bloody enough to push it from PG-13 to R.

That doesn't explain why they took out Clark investigating Batman or Superman saving that woman after the senate explosion.
>>
>>71620716
Personally think the studio demanded a maximum runtime and did their own cut to match that and stuck with it.
>>
>>71620770
They also took out all the information on who the black lady was and how she was forced into lying by lex luthor.

This was the biggest gap in the theatrical.
>>
The directors cut was even better than MoS IMO, and that's really saying something
>>
>>71620804
That MoS wasn't much to compare to?

I unironically think this. Dude is seriously talented when it comes to visuals. He's just different from other action directors where he tries to add substance to his movies, which casuals want none of. They just want punchy punchy smashy smashy for an hour and a half with some jokes. Snyder is the hero we deserve.

>Synder actually did the impossible and made Superman a decent character
>>
>>71620613

I wasn't sure if /tv/ was joking or not.

Because I actually think most of the Marvel output is genuinely bad, and while Man Of Steel was awful, I'm not complete against Snyder.

So I put on the Extended Cut with a bit of optimism.

Thanks a lot, you fucking cunts. Three hours of my life pissed away on possibly the worst movie I will see this year. Jesus christ, I didn't know a major studio could release something this utterly horrendous.

I'm gonna stop short of blaming Snyder entirely though, because I'm sure Goyer is probably more than 50% responsible for this mess.
>>
I know it's an unpopular opinion around here but BvS might be the best movie of the year, way better than Shitvil War
BvS had more than just quips, Snyder really humanises Superman is a way that most movies don't.
Are you guys excited for Justice League like I am? Call me a DC fanboy but it might just be a better movie than Suicide Squad.

Except you're talking about a man that can fly. Meaning that the force he needs could actually be counteracted by the force he uses to fly.

Imagine you could fly and you want to pull something heavy forward. Instead of just relying on pure force you'd try to fly it upward somewhat to counteract the downward force.

This movie has definitively ruined Superman for the DCEU. Now that he has died and will come back there's really no more dramatic tension whenever he shows up anywhere. He will literally be Doctor Manhattan. If he can't be killed anymore then he has no threats and there is no reason for even a Justice League when he can basically do everything himself.

Snyder isn't a bad director. I can't imagine anyone being able to make this train wreck work.

thats splitting hairs really, and spiderman making jabs about reboots until its right is hilarious
>>
>>71621778

Warner's is just trying to get through this shit as quickly as possible for the inevitable reboot.

Zod and Man Of Steel were a Part 2, and this should have been Death Of Superman.

It's like they realized after MOS they'd fucked up, and now they just want to wrap the DCEU up really quick and start again.
>>
>>71621844

Snyder really wanted Superman to die. Fuck logic.

Wonder Woman should have killed the monster with the spear.
>>
>>71621778
>Can't be killed.
Except he dies twice in BvS, he can most certainly be killed.

And death has no copyright on central conflict.
>>
>>71621898
Plus, if you have Wonder Woman save Superman, you give an even more legit (and less edgy) reason for there being a need for a Justice League, because it shows that they all need each other. It would've also subverted audience expectations with it being Doomsday and all. Honestly would've been a much better ending, imo, that would have setup a lighter tone going into Justice League.
>>
>>71621937
His deaths are meaningless because of how temporary and transparently used for dramatic effect they are.

Neither Clark or Batman know anything about Diane/WW until they see her trading blows here and there with Doomsday. Who knows if she could drive it through him at this point?

And guess WHO is keeping Doomsday LOCKED DOWN so Superman can drive a spear through him? Oh my, ain't that Diana's rope? He'd be jumping around otherwise (which we are shown EARLIER, he really likes to JUMP AND MOVE)

And besides, the spear is with Clark and there's the Doomsday and there really is no time to plan this thing in heat of the moment.

>>71621961
Both of his deaths had meaning. The first one was a 'smaller' in its narrative, changing Superman (essentially a rebirth of sort) and the second one changed the entire world.

Again, death has no copyright on central conflict.
>>
>Using the same henchman fight choreographer as the batman movies

>>
>>71622004
What a shitty fight scene, guy kicks out his leg and then quickly slides it back to do his flip, doesn't flow properly with batman's swing motion.

then that other douche just drops to his knee
>>
>>71621593
I had seen Dark Knight Returns so I know the one who dies is going to rise again. Even on second viewing it still didn't take the emotion out of it. It was the best capeshit ending of all time.

>>
>>71622003
There was no need for WW to hold Doomsday with the rope.

WW cut Doomsday's hand off no problem, without anyone keeping him from jumping around.
>>
>>71620613
Why did he die? I mean he's the fucking Superman, hang him on a clothesline rope together with your wet laundry and let him soak up some sunlight.
>>
>>71622181

and you know this how?

>Cut off the hand.
That grew back.

They've become my two of my favorite comics films, the differences in how I'd rate them really just too close to call. I honestly feel like these are legitimate love letters to the fans of the source material.
>>
>>71622260

How did Doomsday's hand grow back? No logical reason.

Snyder wanted it to grow back so it grew back.

Why didn't Zod's snapped neck fix itself if he had such regenerative powers? Because Doomsday certainly didn't get the power to regenerate limbs from Lex Luthor's DNA.
>>
>>71621035
I think he just walked away from the process and let them cut their own throats along with the film. Maybe they'll learn to leave him the fuck alone now.
>>
>>71620716
Are you honestly trying to tell me the only reason this movie was so hated was because plotholes and not because the characters are unlikable and have zero chemistry amongst each other?

A movie can have plotholes and still be enjoyable, but the rest is more difficult to remedy. The Holy Trinity feels so soulless which is pretty bad considering this is what they are trying to center DC movie universe on.
>>
>>71622454
>No logical reason.
It's logical within the film, Doomsday regenerates itself, this is established visually and through exposition to the viewer.

and wasn't Superman established to have better powers on Earth because he had been in Earth's sun exposition longer? Zod had some issues to even breath at first
>>
>>71622433

>>
>>71622538

Probably Luthor's DNA made Dooms acclimated to Earth

Yep its stupid but what can we do
>>
>>71621423
No, he's primarily "pulling" by "flying grounded," so to speak. It's the same principle that allows him to remain unmoved by force sufficient to move his own mass a lot of the time, like when the Batmobile crashes against him like he's rooted into the ground like a tree. When he's braced and expecting it, it takes something operating on Zod or Doomsday's level to knock him around.
>>
>>71622433
these movies are very comic book accurate

donnerman is straight apocrypha, which is fine, but it's not a be all and end all, yet somehow people judge the 'objective quality' of these movies on how close they are to that

i remember i thought mos was solid, but in retrospect it moreso than bvs reminds of my favorite kind of very loose sci fi fantasy surrealism, like say aeon flux, but not overt
>>
Doomsday has been regenerating himself long before B v. S
>>
>>71622538

It makes no sense for him to regenerate. Where did he get that power from?

How does a Cave Troll get created from mixing two human looking guys? The result of that should have been a guy with Zod's powers and Lex's hair. Doomsday's creation makes no sense at all.

I'm not a Marvel fan, but I enjoyed their good films (Ant-Man, Iron Man 1, TWS).
Civil War was shit. Literally nonsense plot, quips all over the place except a few scenes that were supposed to be "dramatic" except they weren't because there's nothing at stake in these films.
You just KNOW all those characters will be back in the sequel.
Nobody expected Superman's death, which is mean to symbolize the resurrection of Jesus and THAT will be the ultimate Superman that will lead the Justice League.
But plebs can't understand movies too complex, this is why Marvel exists.

No it doesn't. Everyone on DC's side from Kevin Tsujihara to the DC fanatics keep saying how "grounded" and "realistic" their movies are but when someone points out that it's a lie the only defence DC fanatics have is "look at Marvel and how unrealistic their movies are".

Yes, I totally agree.

There's a lot of true sci-fi/fantasy themes within these movies that I honestly believe we'll see getting expanded on even further as the DCEU progress. Here's the progression I believe we're witnessing:

The "First Contact" scenario introduced in MoS leads mankind to shift their perspective on reality to make room for a Superman. In BvS, we see Clark really start to become a focal point of the hopes and beliefs of mankind, while largely remaining something of a cypher in the public consciousness. Some people look and see a god/messiah, some people look and see a threat, still others(Lex) see a resource to be exploited. Clark, heeding the words of both his father as well as Bruce, not only chooses his world, but also forces it to make sense; and the world he's choosen is a world that has room for larger-than-life heroes.

What do those shifting perceptions on reality and all that focused, collective belief mean in terms of the world he's ushered in? A rebirth of magic. An "Age of Heroes," where the brights are much brighter, but the darks are also much darker. To borrow a line from Stephen King's
"The Stand:"

“Dark magic,” he said softly. “A universe of marvels where water flows uphill and trolls live in the deepest woods and dragons live under the mountains. Bright wonders, white magic. ‘Lazarus, come forth.’ Water into wine. And… and just maybe… the casting out of devils.”

Heroes. gods, and monsters.

Part of how Doomsday is presented is as a Kryptonian monstrosity that goes beyond their own innate ability to metabolize our sun's energy and is instead capable of absorbing energy in a myriad of forms, up to and including kinetic energy. He absorbs energy, hits a "critical threshold," so to speak, and then begins to further mutate into a more powerful form, blowing off the excess buildup in one of his "electrosplosions."

I have zero problem buying into him using a portion of that absorbed energy to regenerate himself and adapt. Adaptation and regeneration have always been part of his power set, and as presented here, are only slightly tweaked from how they're presented in the comics.

I just hope that when the military's doing their cleanup, they have sense enough to leave that damn spear in his chest.

I do. I think he's perfect for the role. They've given him a pretty heavy burden, too. So far, he's been a very self-conscious Clark Kent facing the world without much in the way of a public persona. I think we're going to see that changing on subsequent appearances.

I felt like that was as big a part of the senate bombing as any of the other fallout - it cut short his first real attempt at trying on a more public voice. He's going to need it to help dispel that godly aura that hovers around him and make him a more accessible figure to the people of Earth.
>>
He didn't. Only man children like this movie.

The opening Batman scene was well done and the warehouse fight was good.

Other than that the movie was either barely average or below it. A cynical superhero cash in that treated its audience as if it was stupid enough to accept its inconsistencies and idiotic moments.

But evidentely they were right.

It has come up in a few JLA stories where superman was mentioned as not being a team player

>>71621201
That smile that Superman has when he see's the girl's mother. He knows he's done the right thing. And that right there is Superman. Victories, trophies, glory all mean nothing to Supes. All he cares about, and all he's ever cared about is helping people. Using his power to protect and inspire, never to conquer or terrorize.

Because their villains are equally as powerful, and like to team up from time to time. Also so Batman can keep tabs on Superman

It's the moment where he starts realizing that by remaining this aloof "guardian angel" that swoops in to save us, he's becoming an object of worship and that that's a very bad thing. It's a callback to the vision with Zod, only this time, it's him that's leading us to our extinction. It's a portent of things to come.

It's a gradual thing that plays out over the entirety of the rescue montage, culminating in the moment where he's hovering above the flood, where he fully recognizes what he's seeing - not just praise and camaraderie, but outright worship.

People are turning his symbol of hope into a religious invocation and waiting on the "man in the sky" to save them when a simple "HELP" would have sufficed.

I guess you have a fair point there, but that's not the line the film takes imo. The scene of day of the dead is a call back to his fears in Man of Steel about being unable to save people. Skulls and bones, *kill him* in his nightmare, in BvS he goes to similar looking crowd and saves the girl and the crowd cheers (worships? ) him. Gonna need a rewatch to sort my thoughts desu

Man I really want a Director's Cut of Man of Steel now.

The woman reaching out to Superman during the flood gave me chills. The aftermath of the Senate bombing was a tearjerker for me. He is clearly DAMAGED from somethign that happened to Robin (the tainted suit). He is popping pills and alcohol same time and he was also at the site where Superman and Zod fought ('Mankind is first introduced to Superman) and probably has PTSD from that.
