How realistic are these movies? I know the premise is bullshit but if crime were legal for one day, how accurate would these be to what would really take place?

Also, i doubt any world power would allow the united states to do this. The latest movie confirmed that there wasn't a world catasporhe that prevented other countries from doing something about this.

I am not an expert, but I am pretty sure there wouldn't be roaming gangs of masked villains and religious zealots every fucking where.
The most murders would probably be committed by gang members, a handful of blue collars, and probably a heavy toll throughout the rural south (there you might find religious zealots) but believe it or not, murder being illegal isn't the major reason people don't kill each other.
The major crimes would be theft and assaults, and probably a large number of rapes and sexual assaults, drugs would be everywhere (imagine Woodstock in the streets) and most likely illegal porn, like bestiality and child, would sell like hot cakes.
So really, if Purge was real, there would be very little killing compared to the drug, porn and theft crimes being committed.

pretty much. the real issue would be looting (just look at how bad it can get in a protest, imagine if people knew where and when they could loot without any trouble), illegal trade, not to mention a lot of businesses would take this opportinuty to steal from their competitors or impair them, any hacker on steroids or a trader gone wild could prepare his scheme and go make a couple millions (at the very lest) by fucking up with the stock exchange, etc.
the movies are dumb because they assume the only crimes that matter are violent crimes while in an actual scenario like this, that would be the opposite.

I imagine most stores that can afford it would turn their places into fortresses to lock down on purge night, and the small stores would get broken into. Embezzlement would go through the roof on that night, since every banker, CEO and business man worth his salt would be throwing numbers around like no ones business.
I honestly believe if purge night actually happened, the city wouldn't turn into a fucking warzone of marauding murder gangs, it would become a huge fucking concert/riot, with music blasting, drugs being done right out in public, orgies right there on the street, lots of brawls, and occasional deaths (mostly from ODing, people being stupid, and, as I said, gang violence) but all in all it would just be a massive party. I could see the people looking forward to purge night just so they can get drunk off their ass, high out of their head, bang some high schoolers and just party.

The major issue I see is, no one would actually follow the rules of Purge. You'd still have cops and paramedics out there trying to stem any kind of violence or injury that may occur, simply because it's their nature to help people, even if they are off the job. You don't work as someone who helps and rescues people's lives for a living and just go "oh yeah, they say crimes legal, so I'm just gonna sit at home and watch tv"
