Alright. I hate the casting of Idris Elba. It's not because he's black, he's just so clearly not what King described in the books. I'm sure they'll manage to work around the race stuff with odetta holmes but that's not the point. This is the main character for a series with a huge fanbase, and I know Elba has decent acting chops but it's just off putting. It's like having Jim Carrey cast as the lead or Leonardo DiCaprio. It just wouldn't be a good fit.

I also thought it was possible he took the role really seriously. As in, he was playing a military general who had lived in various parts of the world. Maybe Idris was thinking this guys accent would be different and unique to the character. He's a damn good actor so it wouldn't shock me. It also wouldn't shock me if he just did that movie for a paycheck though. Nothing wrong with making a living.
Don't take me wrong though, I'm an Idris fan. I think he's stellar in most of his roles. Just based on good accents, his accent in Prometheus was flawless. He nailed that American South thing he was going for on every single word.
