Kelsey Grammer, who was once sentenced to jail time for drunk driving and cocaine possession, has quit Alcoholics Anonymous, and now drinks every day.
In an interview with The Times, Grammer spoke about leaving sobriety behind. “I no longer go to AA and I still enjoy a drink,” he admitted. “People need to know how to move on and put things in another place. Drinking is not a vice.”
He also warned that nobody should interfere when it is time for him to hit the bottle. “I want my five minutes every day when I have my cocktail, and I want no one to bother me during that time.”
The 61-year-old, however, does draw the line at cocaine, insisting, “You are dicing with death when you go down that road.”

I think it has to do with frequency and quantity. If you drink a lot one weekend a month, you're not really an alcoholic. If you drink a bear every day when you get home from work you're not an alcoholic. It's when you drink a 6 pack or whatever everyday that you might have a problem.

I don't get how anyone can drink so much on a daily basis, I can understand having a beer or two (or even a glass or two of whiskey) on a daily basis but even as someone with an alcoholic dad (and alcoholic grandparents on his side) it seems so bizarre.

Really the best way to combat it (at least from what I've seen with my dad) is to keep finding activies to do to keep your mind off of alcohol. I know it sounds basic but even simple things like yard work and going out to the gym can put your mind to ease while making you feel better about yourself.

Well thats sort of how it works. People drink every day for a while and it becomes a part of their life. They try to cut down and they get a taste of the withdrawal symptoms and get right back in the bottle. They drink to feel good, and they feel like crap if they don't drink. Its a rough cycle to break, and I say that as someone whos mom was an alcoholic.
