If I have heard nothing about a show at all, my drop point is episode fucking 1. Why the fuck would even the network make more shows if the pilot is trash.
A couple of shows that people have recommended or whatever, I'll go longer, if it's a 10-12 episode season I'll try and get to the end of season 1 because obviously somebody saw something worth recommending (this also means a more modern show because they plan out entire seasons for non-network shows, rather than making up 23-episode seasons as they go along).
I can't think of a time I finished the first season of a show after the first 2-3 eps sucked and thought, "wow I'm glad I did that." Maybe Dollhouse, but nothing else.
