Venture Bros is the only adult cartoon that isn't just a bunch of dialogue over shitty stills of characters standing around. It also put some decent effort into world-building and characterization.
For the "characters stand around while the VAs riff" brand of adult animation, I like the Small/Bouchard stuff the best. Clone High was a standout too.

If at any point there was a clash, it wasn't animation styles, it was a clash between cliches/stereotypes, specifically clashes created by what we know/how we normally think of certain cartoon cliches and how the characters act.
