This is not out of the blue, however. From the fist scene, Batman is constantly tormented by his mother's death and his father's failure.
When he falls into the cave in the dream, you can see a pearl falling next to him.
There is the scene where he sees blood coming out of his mother's grave and the bat-demon comes out and attacks him. This clearly means his mother's death is what created the bat part of him and even after so many decades, Martha is STILL BLEEDING in his unconscious.

All of this is true, but it has little to do with the context of the scene and its execution.
The reason that martha makes bats connect with superman is clear cut we can all agree.
The execution lacked all subtlety and bordered on the ridiculous.
When you watch the scene it feels off, you wonder why Batman is going off like this.
Everything prior showed a deep but refined emotional trauma that has been blunted by time but is still affecting him.
You can say it was the bloodlust of battle I guess but the scene would have done what it was intended to do and been more effective if Bats had been much more reserved in his reaction to hearing his 30 years dead mothers name.
