Why is this film so shit?
Its basically a transformers movie without any weed jokes. Also, all the major fights take place at night time to hide any flaws in the shitty CGI
It's the best CGI action movie of this century, so please go fuck yourself.

I understood nothing about the movie: the post collection.
The only Jaegers with any personality are killed off immediately.
The movie fails to convey the sheer scale of sizes and destruction because it adamantly refuses to show anything from a human street-level perspective. Thus it comes across like a kid bashing action figures together. The one time we do see a sequence where the Kaiju seem huge and threatening it's a dream/flashback.
Most of the interesting elements of the story are in the backstory, which is glosses over so we spend way more time with the one-dimensional characters than necessary.
Setting 3/4 of the main fights in open ocean robs the movie of interesting visuals and lowers the stakes, making it hard to care about the action.
The Kaiju suffer from copy/paste design elements, so they have no identities and are hard to tell apart unless it's a close-up or they're currently using their gimmick power.
The protagonists are Generic America Man and Stereotypical Animu Waifu.
