Is piracy hurting the film industry, or is that just a lie so big studios can make more money?
More like film industry is hurting piracy. Fucking jews.

well seeing as tfa was one of the most pirated films out there and it still managed to be one of the highest grossing films in existence, i'm gonna go ahead and say no pirating is hurting no one

It does have an effect, but the impact is greatly exaggerated. They put out numbers of how much money has been lost, as if watching a movie without paying for it is taking money out of their pockets, when the actual amount they've lost is $0.
Also just because someone downloads films them doesn't mean they don't also buy films. Industry just puts up a big stink because they're greedy faggots who don't want to adapt to the changing times

Piracy is not hurting the film industry in any way
Someone who pirates a film was never going to spend money to see it in the first place

exactly, that and someone still had to buy the movie in order to share, rarely is a pirated copy obtained through industrial espionage where they went into the movie studio and stole a print of the film, and even if they did, the ratio of people pirating the film and the people who actually pay to see isn't gonna change at all

Box offices are getting bigger and bigger, so no

Game of thrones just had its biggest watch numbers ever on TV. How is that piracy exactly? Some people dont have friends or money and still like the show enough to stream it and talk about it. If you jail people who torrent or stream shows, movies, or entertainment in general, you are only turning them off from ever going to a movie theatre in the future.
