What is the best sketch comedy show of all time?
For me it's between Chapelle's Show and The Whitest Kids you know.
What's your opinion /tv/?
Posting examples of each:

Mr Show hands down. I was rewatching it again tonight, and 20 years later it's still hilarious and the jokes are not completely dated. I love sketch comedy shows and none of them has withstood the test of time as well as Mr Show in my opinion. Chappelle's Show is classic, but it looks and feels incredibly dated to me.

A lot of Chapelle Show's comedy came from making fun of current cultural events/fads/issues and the like, so it being dated is probably a result of that.
The R. Kelly parody about his pissing scandal in the OP is a good example of that.

What was it that finally did him in?
>>71544025
Unironically he felt like he was being controlled and his show was being forced in certain directions that he didn't agree with. Or in short, the Jews. That's why he declined continuing it and fled to a fucking island and cut himself off from society for like 3 months or some shit.

Most of his funny skits were written by Neal Brennan, a white man. He handled it for awhile but after a few years didn't like the fact that his success was due to a regular white writer, and not his unique sense of black humor. He quickly lost mental control and fled to Africa because of "coporate control issues" and bullshit like that.
If he actually had integrity he would have fought instead of fled. He fucked over his writing friends and they since have said they want nothing to do with him.
Funny how it all works out. He's funny but his show was not due to him.

>his show was not due to him.
Not entirely, but he could certainly take a funny idea to it's full extent

Fuck off /pol/. Neal Brennan was one of the main writers, but he didn't write "most" of anything. Watch his stand-up or his interviews, he clearly admits Chapelle's larger role in making the skits. Stop lying about the situation just so you can promote your narrative.

Because the context of comedy has shifted a lot since Flying Circus. It's important, but not as currently relevant as newer stuff.
It's like the Beatles. They were largely important and had major influence. But you can definitely argue that there are plenty of better musicians when you take out the historical context.
