Take it from me. 2 years ago I was an extra. Now I do speaking bit parts in some hollywood movies and I never took a single acting class and I tried acting on a whim. I never spent a single euro on training and I got to a point where I had casual chit-chats with some C-listers. I'd get the shit choked out of me in a fit of jealous rage by a lot of actors who've spent years and thousands of currency to get to my point. Now I'm in a lull and I haven't gotten a role in a while. It's all dice.
Never give up. You keep putting yourself in there and trying. You might never succeed, you might succeed decades down the line like Bryan Cranston or you might hit it big and become the new household name and you can snort powdered gold off the stuffed corpse of a Dodo bird.

I'm 18 years old. In high school, I took Intro to Drama, Drama II, Acting I, and Television Production. I live near Miami, so my idea is, I'll find some work here, find casting calls for local student films and maybe even network shows or movies once I get lucky/get enough exposure. After my resume is good enough, I'll seek work in LA. Alternatively, if someone contacts me for a good job in LA before I think I'm done in Miami, I'll fly up there and do that project to test the waters.

I don't know how America is much but I've heard from countless people that America is simply too ... cancerous for this industry. There's a bajillion people looking to follow the path of the actor and America being what it is, it capitalizes on this and charges premiums for every service without actually doing you much good, if anything at all. It's an industry that feed off people's hopes and dreams, like the Cannes short film corner where people shill their short films with as much pomp as they can muster but aren't allowed anywhere near where the proper shit is held.
Create a showreel that is 2-3 minutes long with your best material, can be anything. You want to show diversity of your acting because if you can only do 1 role, you're going to risk pigeonholing yourself. Don't just work in shitty student films, pick and choose something good. Create your own production and star as the lead. Make it good, make it count.

Brits have a long system of theatre and performance art history. The only actors who get given roles are picked from a system they have called Spotlight, which is more or less an official badge of office for an actor over there. You earn eligibility in a small number of ways but a guaranteed way is to graduate from an established drama school. As you can guess, the tuition, the effort and the time required for this is brutal and it's highly demanding. Just to be accepted is a feat of strength itself as thousands apply for only a handful are chosen.
