Now that LOTR and GoT have dominated their respected mediums, we know its possible for fantasy realism to achieve mass audiences and critical acclaim.
Despite all the imminent knock offs, will we ever be treated to something with their scope again anytime soon?

Considering how long got took to write, probably not. These worlds only work if they're based on extremely descriptive 5000 page books. Just compare the dialog and plot of season one got and season six. Without GRRM's writing, the plots became awkward and at times nonsensical and the dialog took a nosedive.
SECOND APOCALYPSE TRILOGY WHEN

true fantasy realms are about all the details and logic game of thrones leaves out.
>imminent knock offs
no budget for that

I... it can work right guys?

GoT is a pile of shit

I'm wishing tom hanks and steven jewberg get together and make a WW1 series.

Warcraft will surpass both of those after the first trilogy is finished

>inbefore black geralt because muh diversity
>>71486131
It won't surpass LOTR or HP but i can see it surpassing the Hobbit and Narnia.
The Dark tower however has the potential to be par with HP if it's done right.

yennifer will be white of course, Ciri will naturally be a proud transgender hispanic woman.
Are you implying GoT is at the same level as LotR?
>>71487237
It's time to leave this board, anon. It's over.
>>71485130
Someone is making KuckMarySuer Chronicles, but the source material is shit and it will fail.
I think First Law trilogy adaptation could be cool. But it's more on the pulpy side, not as epic as GoT and LoTR.
Or someone could always pick up Dune. Again.
>>71485130
some big studio apparently bought the rights for Wheel of Time tv adaptation
if they do it correctly, with good writers, directors, actors, proper budget for lot of good CGI, it could become next GoT.
that is, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF... The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills.
much larger fights than ASOIAF, more worldbuilding and Pelennor fields is minor skirmish compared to the Last Battle of book 14.
And there will be nudity, if they follow the books properly.

I made it halfway thru book 5. Maybe I should pick the series up again. I hear Sanderson redeemed it.
GoT and LotR aren't even comparible
>>71485130
If any series should be made it should be off Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archives.
>>71488374
halfway? there is nice fight at the end, though book 5 is interesting because there is a HUGE fight right in the middle of the book (Siege of Cairhien).
Sanderson finished the series nicely, though there is a noticeable difference in the writing style. Jordan had become really good at certain character writings, and some of the "magic" is missing in certain character interaction. But he faithfully delivers and allows the fans to finish the series in a spectacular fashion.
if you can pull through books 7-10, where the action somewhat becomes slower, the final 4 books are really great.
book 1-3; Rand begins his journey to become Dragon, accompanied by various allies
book 4-7; the central characters move to their new positions having accomplished quite a lot, rising to power and importance
book 7-11; the characters refocus and other new characters gain focus, a few dozen new point of views and slow setup as chars start truly preparing for the final fight to come
book 12-14; shit really hits the fan and the Last Battle begins.

I would like to see it as an animated series tbqh. But all TV Producers in the US think cartoons a for kids and will shave away the budget of a massive book series down to three actors & a green screen and think that's more adult.

You've convinced me anon thank you.

Doesn't the protagonist in WoT have a harem of 10/10 waifus?
How is this going to be translated in a PC environment?

There are no dragons nor magical zombies nor humans who can teleport nor magical resurrection nor evil shadows who can kill your brother.
Right now GoT is flexing the magic muscle more than third age LotR.

make them PoC who talk smack to him and also fuck anyone they want on the side
BLACK COMPANY PLEASE
>>71490211
actually, WoT is a fantasy setting with a strong matriarchy
because of past events, all male channelers (magic users) went mad, with the evil Dark One poisoning the "True Source" that is needed for magic; all males who attempt magic go mad eventually.
Meanwhile female channelers focus on hunting down all males who might channel.
This results in females channelers, Aes Sedai, having their headquarters in Tar Valon, where they rule, influence other nations and play politics whilst dominating the realms of men.
because of men going insane in the past and causing large destruction, all societies have large dose of matriarchy as females can channel, but men are held down, or killed if they try to channel.
the whole book series is about heroic men, who are held down by strong women, having to save the world, whilst being opposed both by actually evil people but also by women who do not like the fact that men do stuff without their explicit permission.
it's like Robert Jordan predicted back in the 90s that his books would be hot topic ~30 years later...

Lord of the Rings is ten folds better than your shitty got
>>71486268
He's not white either
The series spends a lot of time emphasizing that Geralt is not human
While he can blend in, he never really feels welcome and the same
Whenever there's something that involves racial disputes, Geralt is mostly sides with non humans

There is tom bomadil
There is walking and talking trees
There are those giant flying lizard things which are very similiar to dragons
There is resurection if you are a half god
There is necromancy
There is magic wifi orb with visual telephone mode
There is all kinds of magic
But i agree with you they are pretty on par concerning magic

Right, but at the same time Jon is the only truly heroic character in the show and he's been consistently rewarded for it. Sam is a typical guy who shouldn't be rewarded in a show like this, yet he is, and it warms my heart a hundred fold since the universe is so dark in other cases, so when something good happens to someone it feels that much better.
I think overall though the cult of the badass thing is pretty accurate. The way they glorify Arya after what looked like a positive moral turn for the better from her, and then we find out she's actually gone on a revenge spree in Westeros now, and all the while the show is conveying it as though we're supposed to be positive about this and not disturbed. I mean how is she different from when she first went to Braavos? He's also spot on with Daenarys who in my eyes is a fucking joke by now.
>>71490472
There's also no unrealistic feminism ruining the entire show. GoT also has a monopoly on bad acting, bad scripts, and bad directing
