Why don't we talk about this anymore?

Did you all forget how much it resonated with almost every single one of us?

It's like someone made a movie about our lives for fuck's sake.

I can't drive, though.

What don't you like about it?

I saw it rather later so I couldn't appreciate the threads when it was the hot new thing. I kinda tear up during the REAL HUMAN BEAN scene as it brought me back to 1991 where my mother met this guy who had a white 70s Chevelle. I wonder what he thinks of this scene, but I doubt I will get his candid response.

Drive is a transparent commercial exercize in pasting together supposedly cool elements from other films, which it doesn’t even do a remotely good job of. Drive imports most of its “cool” elements from superior films, but those elements simply don’t work when plucked away from the originals. Why? Because unlike those classics, Drive lacks a central premise. There’s no purpose in this film other than to imitate.

The expressionless stares in Drive are too frequent and too long. Occasionally they’re broken with a cheesy smile, at which point what little tough guy credibility Gosling had built up goes out the window.

Even with a seasoned action star in the lead role Drive would be an awful film, but it’s even worse for the fact that Gosling is not a convincing action hero. He’s got muscle, but he’s far too boyish in the face for this kind of role. His version of the tough guy stare is more akin to the timid Cameron character in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

I’ve also been reading quite a bit about Drive being stylish. Well, that’s true if you like meaningless MTV pop videos. Excessive slow motion, depth of field and long supposedly meaningful stares aren’t style. They’re today’s fads ported in from tv commercial aesthetics.

Have people ever watched the classic films Drive lifted it’s cut and paste ideas from? Or has the market become so saturated with garbage that this half-baked effort actually seems good by comparison?

i actually agree. the writing started to go downhill once the love interest was introduced because the character was handled so badly. the cinematography was trying to be good rather than actually being good, even though cinematography is one of the biggest memes in film. this film is pleb bait and basically a student film with a larger budget
>>
I still rewatch it every once in a while, I've shown it to my family and friends and they have all enjoyed it and I've enjoyed watching it with them and reliving the scenes.

i bet you wish you could have made drive. that's how you know a film is terrible -- when 22 year-olds want to replicate it

kill yourself immediately

You're not talking to the same people. Less than 1% of the people who were here back then still lurk /tv/. Now it's just all neo-/tv/, /v/eddit, /pol/-crossposters, etc.

This literally makes no sense. You don't know a thing about cinematography, because if you really did you'd realize just how stupid your post is.

it's like reading a book that will help you pick up women rather than just interacting with women and managing to pick them up anyway. maybe the distinction between good cinematography and wannabe cinematography is lost on a pleb like you but for people with actual taste -- who can watch a film and process it in a way that is informed and individualised -- can easily tell the difference

if you watch films for the spectacle you are everything wrong with the film-going audience. it's people like you that capeshit caters to

Same filename, same resolution.

What did you do to make this picture 13kb larger?
Why would you do it? What was the point?
Do you not have another picture that conveys the same feeling?
Do you just really like Viper?

Gosling wasn't supposed to be an action hero or a tough guy, he did a good job trying to be a dude getting back on the right track by getting into racing.
