To this day Captain Miller is the smartest person to ever be in a horror movie.

>Shit starts getting weird
>"We're leaving"
>"You can't just leave her here!"
>"I have no intention of leaving her here, I will take the Lewis and Clark out to a safe distance where I will fire Tac Missiles at it until she is vaporized. Fuck this ship."
>>
>>71443351
Im not sure if this is pasta.
There are so many ive lost track.
If its not you are right and only made the movie better.
>>
>>71443431

It's a direct quote from the movie.
>>
What about The Thing guys?
>>
>>71443892

Macready was pretty smart overall. Because he was the Thing.
>>
>>71443351
Awesome movie.
Sam Neil's "AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" is classic.
>>
damnit i gotta watch this already.

i saw a video of i guess, an extended scene from when hell breaks loose on the ship and it looked like some serious freaky shit, does anyone know if that was a completely cut scene/extended part or is there some complete directors version i should look for?
>>
>>71443949
pls go
>>
>>71444024
Most of that got cut, I'm afraid, but it's still worth a watch.
>>
>>71444024
It's in a salt mine.
>>
>>71444024

There are brief flashes of the really intense gore but most of it was cut after test audience thought it was way too much.
>>
>>71444068
Not even joking.
The footage was found, but most was unusable.
It will never be released, only leaked.
>>
Any news on maybe getting the more hell footage they found in a new cut?
>>
>>71443351
Ripley was also pretty smart, but was constantly getting cucked.

>Wait a minute. If we let it in, the ship could be infected. You know the quarantine procedure. Twenty-four hours for decontamination.
He could die in twenty-four hours. Open the hatch.
>Listen to me, if we break quarantine, we could all die.
Look, could you open the god-damned hatch? We have to get him inside.
>No. I can't do that and if you were in my position, you'd do the same.
Ripley, this is an order. Open that hatch right now, do you hear me?
>Yes.
Ripley. This is an order. Do you hear me?
>Yes. I read you. The answer is negative.

Based Ripley.

>>
>>71443351
>"We're leaving"
>that scene
the funniest line in a horror movie ever
>>
>>71444395
It's some shit tier CGI cash-grab directed by a complete hack.
>>
>>71444802

You're still not giving actual reasons. Be specific.
>>
>>71444322
It's a fun horror movie but let's not pretend it's top-tier. The black comic-relief character kills any kind of plot suspense in favour of making it palatable to a wider audience, although it does have some set-pieces, but largely consists of cheap jump-scares.
Fucking great sets though. It should be praised on that.
>>
>>71445110

And plenty of good actors. Yes black comic guy was kind of annoying but Neil, Fishbourne, and the guy who played Smitty were all excellent.
>>
>>71445142
I didn't think any of them were particularly strong in Event Horizon to be honest. I still like the movie, I just don't think there's anything about it that is stronger than the set design, the idea of which is remarkable in its own right. I'm probably wrong, I haven't seen it in quite a while.
I'll watch it tonight after work on my new TV with some popcorn. Aw yiss!
>>
>>71444293

Listen up cracka, Event Horizon is by far the best movie that humanity has managed to create. The cinematography, screenwriting, acting, directing, custome design, the locations and the production make it a unique and unremarkable movie that people centuries ahead of us will still watch and appreciate. Now go back and shitpost your little capeshit threads and GoT generals, and let the grown ups talk about real kinotography.
>>
>>71445568

The sets really are fantastic. They hit a perfect blend of being both realistic and yet really ominous and creepy.
>>
Have they found the deleted scenes yet or are they gone?
>>
how did Event Horizon do "Hellraiser in space" better than Hellraiser?
>>
>>71445776

They were supposedly found but are in an unusable state. So they're gone.
>>
>>71445814
Well, shit. Doesn't Paul W.S. Anderson have at least a Workprint tape at all?

I doubt you're retarded anon, keep at it. It's never been a crime to be a nerd, it's just that I fucked up on a simple 3D shape in a level editor and it still annoys me that I couldn't make something cool without always getting it wrong.

How do so many people love this movie? I just watched it and it was fucking garbage, they took the coolest premise and ruined it in every single way.
>you know it leads to hell most of the time, no suspense to crazy scary reveal
>only scary things are shown for literally less than one second
>have scenes where crew sees their personal worse fears but we don't know anything about them until after the scene, rendering it meaningless
the whole thing is just a shit ripoff of Alien mixed with a shit ripoff of Hellraiser.

Basically describes all of Paul WS Anderson's filmography.
The only thing he got right was his wife, the absolute cunt he is.
>>
>>71444024
>The "bloody orgy" video was also longer. As Anderson was sometimes too busy filming other scenes, second unit director Vadim Jean filmed some parts of this scene.[5] Real-life amputees were used for special effects scenes in which Event Horizon crew members were mutilated, and porn actors were hired to make the sex and rape scenes more realistic and graphic.

I was afraid to watch this from the really divisive opinions on netflix, but I saw one review that recommended watching this at night with the lights off and everything

Childs was the thing, not Mcready. It is known.
>>
>>71462572

I would expect a Thing to say that.
>>
>>71462590
At 1:49 watch Mcready's reaction to Childs taking a drink. Earlier in the film we see they used those bottles to make molotov cocktails, the thing is drinking kerosene, not booze, but doesn't react because it doesn't know it's supposed to.

>>
THE REAL LAWRENCE FISHBURNE
>>
>>71462760

So why didn't Mcready do something then?
>>
>>71462927
He likely flamethrowered his ass right after the credits, built an igloo and stocked it with supplies and survived the winter. After being rescued he moved to Elk Cove became a handyman and started a family. After his wife died he and his sons lived alone for years until a rich lady who owed him money fell off her yacht and got amnesia. They wound up falling in love and the rest is history.
>>
>>71463341

>They also find the body of Childs, one of the two survivors at the end of the film, who has died from hypothermia. The film's other survivor, MacReady, is nowhere to be found.

Game is considered a canon sequel. Macready was the thing.
>>
>>71444024
this movie is fucking terrible. even by horror standards, only redeeming aspect of it is some of the gore shots.
>>
>>71463465
Great game but 'canon'? I would say the prequel was moreso and even that had huge continuity errors. Anyhoo, according to the screenwriter neither was the thing
https://youtu.be/Eyh-gpGil3U
but I'll keep thinking it was Childs unless Carpenter says otherwise.
>>
>>71463670

Carpenter worked on the video game and even voiced a character in it. I'm pretty sure that's him saying it's true.
>>
>>71462760
Carpenter better confirm who was the thing before his death.

>>71463465
Macready comes out in the game aswell in a chopper or some shit in the end.
>>
>>71464267

With no explanation of how he survived all those months with no food and no shelter in the Antarctic. Why didn't he freeze to death like Childs? Because he was the Thing. It's a typical horror ending, you now know the Thing is going to escape the Arctic.

MicroG flame is rather boring, but way more spooky than what he described. They start off with small, visible spheres of flame that just sit there, but then they start "cool burning":
