In the books, he elaborately raids the shield islands and tricks the Redwyne fleet into retaking the shields while he sails right past them and sacks Oldtown while vastly outnumbered. In the show they're replacing his magic with 1000 ships and some ballistas. He's just as powerful but nowhere near as interesting. This was done to save time when really we could have had hardcore magic Euron by cutting out Dorne in s6.

The Ironborn will defect if she doesn't take out Euron, he's a far more skilled leader than Daenarys or Yara and he built a thousand ships and took over the world's greatest city. His military might is on par with Cersei's but inferior to Jon's and massively inferior to Daenarys, however Daenarys is ridiculously inefficient and is invading in winter when her army is primarily Dothraki, Unsullied, and Dornishmen who are lightly armored and have never seen snow. It puts Euron and Daenarys on roughly equal footing if he can play his cards right.
It's also for plot convenience. The writers need King's Landing to be a ruin before Daenarys gets there, and the Oldtown battle can eat up that time so that it fits.

That Daenerys is the Big Bad of the series, in fact she's an homage to Sauron from the Lord of the Rings.
When Daenerys invades Westeros, her armies and forces will consist of:

When she arrives in Westeros, she won't be seen as a savior. One look at her army and any Westerosi are going to think a foreigner horde from hell has arrived. Her forces directly parallel the forces of Sauron in Lord of the Rings. An eastern menace.
The reason why she's Sauron is because GRRM always admitted he hated how Sauron was too one dimensional in his villainy, and that he wondered what Sauron's actual motivations were.
Dany will cause despicable carnage to Westeros, and because we've been following her for so long, some people will sympathise with her demented cause of destroying Westeros with hostile foreigner, because we've seen this villain's side of the story.
It's also worth noting that the name of this series is A Song of Ice and Fire- it's a reference to Robert Frost's poem, Fire and Ice.
So if you have ideas of this series ending in the good forces of fire against the evil forces of ice, you'll be wrong.
Robert Frost's poem is about death. Ice is a bitter cold death, and fire is a passionate explosive death. Dany and her dragons are as much of a threat to our story as the Others are.
