Kurt Russell, Kevin Jarre, and Kevin Costner were supposed to make "Tombstone" together, but they had a falling out and Costner then went on to make "Wyatt Earp". During production of both movies, Costner used his box office prowess (he was a major draw at the time) to poison nearly every major distributor against Russell and Jarre's "Tombstone". Then the one studio that WOULD distribute the film refused to do so if Willem Dafoe was cast as Doc Holliday (because of The Passion of the Christ), so they had to cast Val Kilmer instead. Then they hired some fallguy to direct it so someone's career could be ruined if the movie was a complete flop. But Kurt Russell took control during production and developed a secret "sign language" with George Cosmatos on the set, and also sent him shot lists every night. In essence, Kurt Russell saved Tombstone

I'm not invested the way you think I am, I think. I wouldn't care which movie was better or sold the best if it weren't for Costner being a bag of walking dicks. So strictly in that context I'm glad Tombstone had that victory. Small as it may be in the grand scheme of things.
I think I saw Tombstone a decade ago and as far as memory serves For a Few Dollars More is still my favorite western. But this isn't a genre I'm heavily invested in.
