but during the stone age...

Why are there so many comparisons to the middle ages and this show? Do people think this is supposed to be set in earth's history?
>>
>>71402311
when was it?
>>
>>71402213
Being snarky was illegal and life was highly regular

It's obviously high middle ages

It's human history, should be quite similar.

I liked the line because I can imagine the reception guy thinking: 'An impostor would have tried so much harder than this... must be true.'

So what house do you think the sorting hat is going to put Sam in next season?

Hufflepuff obviously.

Kek, that Meister's reaction

Even this is false. Everyone's known the Earth is round since Ancient Greece.
>>
Should have said
>ye olde mortal coil doth beith queer
Then it would've made sense
>>
>>71402864
this is a meme now?
>>
>>71403440
Anyone who ever lived by the ocean knew it wasn't flat way before that.
>>
>>71403691
Sure, but the Greeks were the first to write it down and then prove it mathematically.
>>
I hope that fat sneering little shit dies next season

He talks with such insincerity
>>
>>71403723
Yeah. I just don't like the idea of people thinking that just because they were the first ones that could prove it and write it down humanity must have thought the earth was flat for the thousands upon thousands of years before that.
>>
>>71403786
Fair. But when trying to dispel the myth that people thought the earth was flat until Columbus, it's best to start with what we know for sure and extrapolate from there. I think progress is being made, though. A few years back nobody ever disputed when someone claims something about people thinking the Earth was flat. Now they're always confronted by people saying the truth.
>>
The show is completely vapid. None of the complexities of contemporary life, none of the mysticism of old civilisation. Studios probably no longer have staff with the capibility of understanding religion now. Up until the 17th century even the brightest thinkers of Europe still belived in the mystic elements of religion, witches, enternal damnation ect. We haven't seen a single character in game of thrones question their existential existence like the ancient peoples either. Just 21st century apathy to belief.
>>
>>71402547

i remember in one of the seasons though, sansa is talking to smirkfu's grandma and she says like "oh i adore this dress with the french sleeves"

french sleeves? I thought this wasnt set in earth's history?
>>
>>71403933
Maybe the whole giants, zombies, dragons spewing fire and hobo drunk guys getting ressurected on a regular basis, makes a lasting impression on people to believe less in the act of god and more in "some fucking magic fucker is trying to kill ma cows".

You know, like witches and shit, but this time the witch actually exists.
>>
this isn't the middle ages, it's a fantasy world at a fantasy time :)
>>
>>71404113
Magic in this series is clearly linked with the devine. I'll take your other point, but why isn't anyone rightly terrified? The medevil period is compelling for ideas of courage and duty. Game of thrones is devoid of that now. Every character is written to be a second away from a quip at any moment.
>>
>>71404455
>Magic in this series is clearly linked with the devine.

It clearly fucking isn't. The only people who spread that idea is the people who have something to gain from you following their religion, just like the septons spread the idea that magic isn't real so that you'll follow THEIR religion.

Balon would have died ages ago if Melly had actually had god-given powers to kill kings, rather than seeing glimpses of the future in her flames like any wizard can do and interpreting them on her own like Dany had to interpret her visions.

? We just ended an arc almost exclusively about the power of religion on the masses of the capital city. And Jon just sent away a priestess of another religion for burning a child alive because she believed in her god that much. And Bran is becoming a fucking tree wizard via the Old religion. The interaction between these 3 religions has definitely gotten some focus, although the novel is more about people and politics than it is about religion itself per se. So I really don't know what you mean.

There are pious characters and then there are characters that give less of a shit, because religion is less uniform in this world (on the same contient there are 2 competing religions) and it's a harsh ass world. I think it's pretty believable that say, an unscrupled merc that sees horrible shit happen constantly, and no magic or miracles, might be kind of a secular person in this universe. Just because you read a book that said all medieval people were religious doesn't mean he has to build his world to mirror that and make everyone shit their pants about the afterlife.

This, but you're replyng to a shitposter who thinks he came up with something unique and intelligent.

>no mysticism
>no existential crises
>no prominence of courage and duty
Literally all of this is present in the Starks alone
>>
>>71405056
Have you seen a single character aside from a priest that has claimed to believe in religion? Yes the society mirrors ancient religion over medieval but they had a bigger stake in which way the gods controlled their fate.
>>
>>71405554
>Are you talking about Sam or OP?

4Chan isn't akin to the Citadel's library, more to that one tavern where everyone seems to meet.
Populated with autists.

Unless Westeros is really small, this is hard to believe.
I was disappointed at the world building that there would be no heresies, no minor local religions or customs.
>>
>>71405837
the ironic thing is that the type of attention literally doesn't matter. your reply is also giving him those "muh interaction" chemicals
>>
>>71405802
I shitpost and I know things.
>>
>>71405654
Those things were present under The Starks but died by season 2 with Rob being more preocupied with adultery. John Snow like most characters have repeatedly claimed to serve all religions because clearly they do not matter. No devotion to the Old Gods to save his people from winter. The show had a chance with Stannis and Red God to show schisms among the people of the land but obviously didn't think it would be interesting

I related to that scene so much. I try to be witty and smart sometimes to random people because I get nervous and don't know what to do. That or I just walk away. I definitely related most to sam
>>
>>71405839
Yes which unfortunately failed to be a memorable scene being wasted on a side character who's dialogue that follows compiles of cunt cunt and plunging his axe into a homosexual rapists groin.
>>
>>71406046
His faith in the Gods dwindled as he saw the evil of the world (and, you know, literally died and saw that there was nothing). This is your existential crises, and it was particularly notable because the Starks were presented early on as such a religious family.

Why should their beliefs continue unscathed throughout the series? That wouldn't provide a particularly nuanced view.

>The show had a chance with Stannis and Red God to show schisms among the people of the land but obviously didn't think it would be interesting
Did you miss King's Landing for the last two seasons?

High middle ages without guns and canons, windmills and proper plate armor . Sure thing, bro.
>>
>>71406286
So you're admitting that the show should use our scientifically influenced pre-modern ideas for belief in a series presented in a time of feudalism? Do you think people in the distanced past cast aside belief in religion because the world was dark and full of injustice?

The Kings Landings scenes closely resembled socialism and at a grasp, maybe the levellers or French revolutionaries.
>>
>>71406608
I'm talking about White Walkers not vague injustice. I have my doubts people in the distant past did anything similar in response to direct encounters with them, as they are a fictional creation of GRRM.
>>
The Middle Ages weren't that puritanical. People fucked whores and drank all the time.
>>
>>71406608
I find it highly likely that people who "died" and saw absolutely nothing would start questioning their beliefs like Jon did.

Not 100% of people were actively religious throughout history until someone invented atheism, and the GoT-universe is a case where they'd be even more apt to question the organised religions.
>>
>>71402142
you think the receptionist at nerd castle hasn't met a few nervous joking autists before?
>>
>>71406421
They have RPG fantasy plate armor which has double the strength and is as heaby as boiled leather
>>
>>71406421
Cannons were not widespread and you have gunpowder with wildfire and there's plate armor. It's high Middle Ages you mong
>>
>>71408557
>gunpowder with wildfire
Jesus how wrong can one person get? Wildfire is a green liquid that when ignited, creates a fire that can't be doused by water. Nobody would ever put that shit in a firearm.
