She never failed or was seriously challenged in any true way during TFA. Her only flaw was getting scared due to flashbacks/strange visions upon touching the lightsaber. I like Rey. A lot of people don't like her because she's supposed to be this iconic white girl who will end up fucking a black guy. Bond is a Mary Sue as well, however he has his own series about over the top spy antics complete with gimmicky spy gadgets. It's basically a superhero movie series, and superheroes are always OP Mary Sues.
Star Wars has a lot more established lore, it's not just about any one character. A Mary Sue doesn't fit in there.

Rey is strong and competent and is rough and uninviting for about two seconds as a "flaw", and even then every single character who meets her instantly likes her. Even the fucking villain is immediately fascinated by her and doesn't want to hurt her. Even Chewie isn't the least bit cold to her. She defeats her villain and masters Force tricks conveniently fast and emerges from the movie pretty much unscathed and strong to the point where there's no kind of tension in her character arc anymore. Fucking Kylo Ren has more room to grow as a character and more of a clear arc than she does.
That stands out from both past Star Wars protagonists.

Oversimplification much? People are criticizing her character simply because she is a bad character. She is overpowered to the point of killing tension in almost every scene she is in and making other characters look incompetent. This kind of character doesn't fit in the Star Wars universe as established by the films that came before The Force Awakens. Plus, she is fairly bland.
