This is a bullshit argument though. The only reason we "need" the EU is because over the last 4 decades our systems have become so intertwined that removing one from the other causes (temporary) damage. In the long run this will be a good thing for both parties, I think.
Perhaps the UK won't hold the influence it did whilst in the EU, perhaps. I'd happily trade that for a nation not tied to a decaying organisation, and a better quality of life.
