For an end of a season, I'd agree. However, for the last episode ever I feel it wouldn't have hurt to end on a positive note. I do respect them for staying true to the overall theme of the show, though.

Well I think you're right that it would have been better if they'd brought April back and had Mark get with her. However I think it would have been best not to bring her back, and to write a different season altogether.
As for Jez, maybe they could have brought that Ukrainian girl back instead of making him a literally raging homo. She was pretty qt, and just fucked up enough to fit with the story.
