I believe Peter Joseph was trying to make a broad narrative of power, and greed verses the "common man" but in doing so obviously went too far using the anti-religious assumptions from that book from the 70's.
Much of it makes such huge assumptions grouping so much information to fit a specific direction. If Peter Joseph had been less stubborn about everything and had been willing to admit he was making guesses we'd still be discussing it to find some truth in it.
