It's weird. I didn't "notice" Sansa (or by extension, Sophie Turner) until this season. I never stopped to think "wow, I'm actually attracted to her," until this season. If Rickon acted like a normal well written human being and made it to Jon at the point where Rickon died, Jon would have had plenty of opportunity to turn around and ride Rickon back.
