it's based on one of the biggest classic scifi books? heinlein(the writer, my dense friend) wrote a grimdark satire of facism vs. communism.... the movie is a grimdark satire of facism made by one of the best directors for that genre....

inb4 but hivemind enemies and cool exosuits(alium2): heinlein pretty much invented exosuits and hivemind swarm enemies in the book....

funny sitenote : he foreshadowed waterbeds in another story, so when the first company tried to patent it the where rejected because it was already "invented"

>>
>>71266708
That's incorrect? The book by Heinlein wasn't satire, in fact it actually promotes war and militarism. The film and novel are quite different.
>>
>>71266930
>The book by Heinlein wasn't satire
hmm, i've understood it as one.... i mean the humans are loosing big time against the arachnids... + his father joined the army after loosing everything in the end... + in the book it is implied that the humans are the aggressor because they think that war is an extended way of politics(example, the first drop on that planet of the skinny race was a political move to blackmail the skinnys to switch sides(be with us and live or stay allied with the bugs and we destroy your homeworld.....))

also: heinlein had nice ideas but was a bit strange when it comes to satire, if you want a startling example read "farnhams freehold", it was intended to be against racism but derailed a large bit, someone said it's like a anti-racism-book a klansmen would write....

Heinlein was arguing for a very Greek-city-state inspired world. Viewing it decades after WWII and the cultural hatred heaped onto Fascism can skew one's view of what Heinlein was trying to describe.

Ah, you've not read much other Heinlein and in the book the world's government wasn't facist...since I'm too lazy to type, read this as it's kinda correct:

Helilen's book was not satire you pleb.
The film was supposed to be satire of the book.

>There's a reason not much of the book was used.

Which is that the script was already written when someone told Verhoeven it was a lot like Starship Troopers. He tried to read the book, didn't like it, but search-replaced the names anyhow and licensed the rights. Heinlein's estate sued to have his name taken off the project.
>>
>tfw you only get promoted when you shoot your superior
>>
>>71269820
Yeah no. Neumeier and Verhoeven set out to make a movie about facism because people said robocop was fascist.
>>
>>71269940

Yes, and then that's how it became "Starship Troopers". It was originally called something like "Bug Hunt on Planet X". When it was suggested he read the book, he says he threw it down after three chapters, but still went ahead with calling it that.

Only completing a term of public service earned citizenship which granted additional rights such as voting.

The movie didn't make it clear but in the book that did not just mean the military. It was whatever the government needed at the time, which happened to be military at the time the story takes place due to the border tensions with the bugs.
>>
>>71271192

Ok look you condescending asshole, in the book Heinlein pretty much continuously bashes a form of government. That form of government is what the general public knows and refers to as "democracy". Yes, the book does say that the world is under a different form of democracy where people are giving voting power based on their willingness to give of themselves to help the state and others, usually through the military. But that doesn't change what Heinlein spends a major portion of the book bashing: 20th century democracy where pretty much any adult member of a state holds the power of vote.

I'm not going to go on about all the fucking types of democracies that have existed throughout the millennia since they obviously don't matter in this context. I'm not gonna go on about republics or how this country does this or this country does that, because it obviously doesn't matter in this context. Instead, I'll re-iterate what I said in my first reply: Heinlein bashes democracy. Even an average idiot would've understood what I meant had they read the book.

But you failed even that, which makes you dumber than average. Congratulations.
