You can't.

>roger ebert
why did people take this guys opinion so seriously on film?
It would be better if they cut out every single scene with the stupid housewifes. They're poorly written, poorly acted, contribute nothing to the melodrama are fuck up the pace of the film. Give that screen time to the Vietnamese.
Also, axe the Scots singing. We get it, you were in Braveheart, nobody is impressed. It's extremely distracting.
>>71264838
The war scenes are fantastic and some of the most accurate representations of the Vietnam conflict put to film.
All of the character stuff on the homefront is hamfisted and cliche as are most character death scenes. But otherwise its really solid.
They do a good job showcasing the arrogance of the US military and the failure of Seek and Destroy tactics, the humanity of the Vietcong (without seeming too preachy), and the bravery of the soldiers.
>>71262571
>you can't get any dubs laying down there sonny!

A Bridge Too Far is such a good fucking movie. Criminally underrated.
>>71267388
>>71265073
it's come and see and it's not even up for debate.
>>71269272
Cause when you think "critic", you think Siskel and Ebert. They had a tv show for fucks sake. Probably the most popular critics to have ever lived, and unfortunately making it an actual job that people can, but shouldn't, get paid for.
Cross of Iron
>>71263115
Lol it's not even an objectively good movieand I'm not even memeing. I like Kubrick

>All these faggolos not picking Kellys Heroes
Kellys Heroes
>>71262805
That movie is shit
Pretty much everything in this thread + Downfall
Why the fuck wasn't Downfall mentioned yet?
>>71272548
Sure. The second half, in my opinion, was poorly executed. The boot camp part had great pacing and acting, and told a nice, concise story.
The second half had much shallower characters and the action felt anemic for lack of a better word. Tonally it made no sense, which I know Kubrick was going for the idea of duality, but it wasn't effective to me. And then the ending with the gook sniper, "kill me kill me" felt not only anticlimactic, but almost cheesy.
I guess I understand why it worked for some, but ultimately it's not a movie I personally would consider good.
>>71272567
I know it's sending me bad vibes man
>>71272640
Because we're talking about war films about soldiers and battle scenes, not dramas set in a war time scenario
>>71272548
its not about war. its about sex and masculinity.
>>71272889
80% of Downfall is the soldiers reacting and having to deal with Hitler being batshit. So what the fuck?
>>71272809
Yeah I feel the same wish the movie would have just ended when Sgt. Hartman got shot, good thing Kubrick got better with the time
>>71273019
Not the biggest ACO fan, but EWS was fantastic, so I agree
>>71272809
>The second half, in my opinion, was poorly executed. The boot camp part had great pacing and acting, and told a nice, concise story.
100% no argument
>the action felt anemic for lack of a better word.
i get what you mean, but i think the duality was in showing the difference between the intesive action they trained and prepared for and contrasting it with the reality of the war they see, which is 99% sitting around and 1% action, and that actions is more often that not, not agaisnt the hard men your trained and prepared for, and how this jades you as a person. if the action had been "hollywood" i feel it wouldve lost the message
>I guess I understand why it worked for some, but ultimately it's not a movie I PERSONALLY would consider good.
nothing to argue here
