Everytime I try to watch it I get mad around about 20th episode about how shitty the animation and writing are, how cardboard-cutout almost everyone is and general retardation and lack of hardness. 14-19th episodes are the most cringeworthy. I got stalled before 30th episode for the second time in 3 years I think. Thinking of deleting it again. The problem for me wasn't even that it's old. I watched other similarly aged shows and enjoyed them. The problem was it was obviously done hastily, and had an unprofessional quality to it. There were errors which would annoy everyone who has even a smallest background in art/design - like perspective errors, etc. Plus the interior design is just so tacky/unimaginative, it annoyed me. You gotta have more love for your project, especially if it's sci-fi, which implies heavy world-building. But perhaps I was just nitpicking because I couldn't get into the show in general.

Hmm, I'm not the only one to think that since there are no actors pretty enough to portray Reinhard, he should be female. But this shieldmaiden is clearly too old. I would cast picrelated. If you've seen her in Maps to the Stars, you know she's quite good at portraying a villain and a psycho, who does undeniably evil things, while still staying relatable and loveable.
Making Reinhard female would actually make sense frm the storytlling point, I think. It would be kinda tough to make viewers care for a stereotypical white basically Nazi MC, especially in current political climate. But girls naturally elicit more sympathy. They are still seen as essentially a caring, nurturing gender who can't be fundamentally evil. So imply that she became a tomboy not to be seen as a whore like her sister, went into the military to make her father proud, and so on. As a result even tumblr will be all over this little brat, crying over how she's a victim of patriarchy and it's patriarchy that makes her evil and also makes her reject her feminity. You could also make Kirchieis female, and now it's a take of doomed lesbian love, instant success with social justice crowd.
Not to mention, fanatical loyalty for Reinhard is now somewhat easier to explain.
And, of course, diversity quota is now filled and LoGH is a sausage fest no more.
