Uncanny Valley

If it's so burned into the human instincts to be freaked out at the sight of something that's trying to look human but isn't, then what was it that put that fear into our ancestors? We're naturally afraid of the dark because we could be stalked and killed by predators in it. Afraid of heights because if we fall we'll probably break our legs, which was not an easy fix back then. We learned to be afraid of spiders and snakes because if one bit us, we were just done for because no antivenom. So why are humans naturally nervous when we see something inhuman with an extremely human appearance?

"some level of schizophrenia" means nothing, really.

Schizophrenia impairs a person's ability to recognize faces, and a huge part of the uncanny valley is our brain going fucking nuts at recognizing-but-kinda-not a face in something.

do you see a hollow, inverted face, or does your brain force you to see an actual face?

A boy falls in love with a girl.

Unable to confess, he is gifted by a deus ex machina with the girl's phone number. Never minding the strange area code, he immediately calls her, and is overjoyed to find out that she has a crush on him as well.

But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to the girl, she only looks at him with a perplexed expression. After some investigation, he finds out that the girl he called is not the same girl he fell in love with. In fact, she doesn't exist in this universe at all. She is the girl's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with the MC's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of her crush.

Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of LOVE.

In the first one, they try out their own thing by being creative but the media keeps taking control, leading to their failure. Then the media starts controlling the show in full ("Now let's all agree to never be creative again"... Roy also doesn't show up until after this episode). Then they break free of the cycle and start their own independent show. Now they're free to start over and try to be creative again, this time with more freedom albeit a smaller budget (basically no set pieces in contrast to the full set in the first one). I imagine we saw the start of another episode about creativity, but with actual encouragement from the notepad this time.

The date (19th) represents how many times the simulation has been tried, every time it reboots, the structure simplifies to allow lessons to run more smoothly (hence why it's now the 20th run)

It's possible that they didn't even start as puppets but have been downgraded to that point, it would explain why the notebook appears crosseyed as it's an even simpler version of the one we saw.

There's no paralleled universe. When the red guy pulled the plug, it was meant to represent the end of old media, something we're experiencing in real life now. More and more people are turning away from mainstream media and television, and are turning to a more fee, less manipulative media source. I.E. the internet.
The characters are free of the media's molding finally being themselves, represented by their favorite colors. Green is no longer restricted arbitrarily because the media just says it's bad.

The most important bit is at the very end, when the notepad reopens and starts singing her song again. It means the threat is still there. The cycle could start all over again. Even now, powerful people from the old media are desperately trying to control the internet and other free forms of information so they can control people again.

I love the series but kids who take it as a criticism of media are thinking about it on a lower level. There's more at work here than remembering to doubt what you see on television.

Also
in 6, when Red Guy was fiddling with the computer, did he intentionally spawn those characters or did he try to stop it? Because until Roy showed up he looked like he was getting quite into it.

Why I think he was intentionally doing it was because the File who showed up when the teachers kept swopping out was his creation from the office scene.

Red was clearly trying to find a way to stop it. To find the off button so his yellow friend would stop being tortured. Only every button summoned another character. There was no off button. Roy stopped him in a gesture that said it was pointless for him to continue trying. Maybe even convince Red to come back into the fold. So Red had no choice but to unplug the whole system.

There's a great made-for-TV movie by the BBC called "The Lost World" which is based on the HG Wells book that deals with this. It has Bob Hoskins.

The humans end up encountering missing link apemen and they don't take too kindly to humans.

I don't know about schizophrenia impairing facial recognition, but I do know it can lead to greater accuracy in some visual recognition tests and less than others. Basically, in any test where you have look at a moving image and then get asked what was in the image, schizophrenics are more likely to see something than non-schizophrenics.

Sometimes this is more accurate, and schizophrenics will notice dots or faces where others would get distracted, but in other cases it's innaccurate and they claim stuff was there when it wasn't. The mental process required for detecting things in a schizophrenic brain is ratcheted several notches higher than normal, for better or worse.

>>71250140
That's an interesting one. Autistics have reduced times in recognising faces, as well as samples of functional speech and sentences ("the cat went to the tree"), but they show an increased ability to dedect (and also detect more quickly) novel forms without official meanings, so new "face types" other than a humans and nonsense sentences (the and what are be the go" as well as perfect recall.

Autism seems to be a decoupling of whatever part of the brain is responsible for marking a structure or arrangement of features as "normal" or "legit" with the senses.

Most people are hopelessly computer illiterate and computers are for all intents and purposes magic boxs that freak out and do damaging things when you do what you thought were normal things to them. Using a computer is basically one long list of "don'ts". Naturally various groups attempt to exploit this ignorance, and the media in DHMIS creates the freakout to scare away interference and inquiry.

Has anyone noticed how each episode represents that standard daily routine like:
Breakfast>Bath>Goingout>Leisure>Dinner>Bedtime

This could mean that all 6 episodes represent 1 day and red guy pulling out the plug started a new day, which is why the notepad had come back.

I'd push against this interpretation based off of the way it cuts out

the episode cutting to black abruptly has a very specific implication, that things will happen as they did before. Otherwise we would be allowed to see how the song differs, and how in this world the people in it have creative agency.

This lack of resolution is a clear demonstration of a cyclical narrative. The only thing that demonstrates any kind of true shift between the old and new universes is the date changing to the 20th. The fact that it does belatedly, as if too late by accident, suggests that there is incremental change, that the world is ever so slightly better. The cycle repeats itself until enough red guys pull the plug and the people are free from the media's influence

>who is Roy

Roy is Yellow's father

Roy created the world Yellow lives in to act as a parent proxy, teaching Yellow the ways of the world. The world represents children's media and how parents' tendency to sit their kids in front of Sesame Street and Yo Gabba Gabba instead of interacting with them leaves the kids indoctrinated, constrained, and alone.
